In Bollywood, Aamir Khan is famously referred to as the “Master of Perfection” because of his exceptional acting abilities, meticulous attention to detail, and commanding screen presence. Despite numerous successful movies to his credit, it was Indra Kumar’s film Dil that initially propelled him into stardom. Interestingly, the director recently disclosed that he had differences with Aamir regarding the marriage and elopement scenes between Aamir and Madhuri Dixit in the movie, which led to a lengthy four-hour discussion.
During a recent conversation with Siddharth Kannan, Indra Kumar reminisced about collaborating with Aamir Khan on their 1990 movie “Dil,” featuring Madhuri Dixit. Kumar disclosed that there were disagreements between him and the actor regarding certain elopement and wedding sequences in the film.
The scene shows Aamir and Madhuri’s characters running away together and marrying in an unconventional manner. In this scene, one of the actors pretends to destroy a chair, ignite it, and then transform it into a makeshift altar for their wedding vows. However, Khan had reservations about this concept and voiced his doubts to the movie director.
Indra Kumar relayed, “Aamir said to me, ‘Indu, have you gone mad? Is it common sense to get married after breaking a chair?’
Indra and the actor had a lengthy debate that lasted four hours, during which they firmly maintained their opposing views – this being the one instance where Indra didn’t align with the actor. Despite the disagreement, Indra was certain about his stance, and in the end, the movie’s success served as proof of his conviction.
In 1990, Indra Kumar’s heartfelt movie “Dil” showcased a talented cast consisting of Aamir Khan, Madhuri Dixit, Anupam Kher, and Saeed Jaffrey. This production received favorable criticism and ended up being the top-earning film that year.
