As an avid fan of Bollywood and a connoisseur of love stories, I can’t help but be captivated by the tale of Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan. Their romance, filled with unexpected twists and turns, is a testament to the magic of Bollywood and the power of true love.
As a dedicated follower, I’ve always admired the bond between Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan, two of Bollywood’s most cherished stars. Lately, there have been whispers online about their potential separation. Amidst these rumors, let’s revisit an old interview where Aishwarya herself spoke about Abhishek’s spontaneous proposal and their roka ceremony. She expressed her surprise at the unexpected event, and added that her father was absent when the roka took place.
In the second season of Famously Filmfare, Aishwarya Rai narrated an unexpected turn of events following Abhishek Bachchan’s proposal, during which their roka ceremony took place. Being from a South Indian background, the actress was not accustomed to the custom of a roka, which is traditionally practiced more among North Indians.
She was taken aback when she learned that Abhishek’s family was coming over unexpectedly for the ceremony, as an additional twist, her father wasn’t in town yet and required an additional day to come back, thus making the whole situation appear even more abrupt.
Aishwarya told the story about how the actor notified her, explaining, “‘Everyone will be here and I can’t prevent dad from coming. We’re already on our way to your place.’ At that moment, I exclaimed, ‘Oh my God!’ This significant event, known as a ‘roka,’ was confirmed with a call to my father who is currently away.
During the unexpected roka ceremony, she expressed her bewilderment and sought understanding from her mother, Brindya Rai. As the Bachchan family made their way in, clearly moved by the situation, Aishwarya found herself swept up by the rapidly developing events.
The actress explained the situation, stating that as her mother and the Bachchans were immersed in the moment, she exclaimed, “Mum is here, we are here. They’ve all returned home, they are emotional, everyone does. I’m thinking, ‘Wow, this is happening.’ Then it feels like, ‘let’s go home’. I’m wondering, ‘Mom, okay…is this…is this an engagement? Like, what exactly transpired?’
In 2007, Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan got married in a private ceremony held in Mumbai. They became parents to their daughter, Aaradhya, in 2011. Lately, whispers about their possible separation have been spreading across the internet. However, the couple has remained tight-lipped on this issue, and people are still discussing and searching for evidence to back up these rumors.
Regarding her professional life, Aishwarya Rai recently appeared in Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan: II, which came out in 2023. Moving on to Abhishek Bachchan, he is set to star in Housefull 5 along with Akshay Kumar, and King, a film directed by Sujoy Ghosh featuring Shah Rukh Khan and Suhana Khan.
