As a lifestyle expert reflecting on the dynamic careers of these esteemed filmmakers, I must say that the tale of Anurag Kashyap and Vasan Bala is a fascinating study in the complexities of creative collaboration. Their story underscores the importance of open dialogue, understanding, and mutual respect in any artistic partnership.
Known for his exceptional work as a filmmaker, Anurag Kashyap gained fame with the thriller “Gangs of Wasseypur” that captivated movie enthusiasts. During the production of this film, Vasan Bala – another esteemed director – was helping him out. Bala later directed his first full-length feature film, “Peddlers,” in 2012. However, it might surprise you to learn that a heated disagreement between them led Bala to walk away from the set of “Gangs of Wasseypur.
During a conversation with Mashable India about his role as an assistant director in Gangs of Wasseypur, Vasan Bala discussed a heated argument he had with filmmaker Anurag Kashyap. The director explained that this disagreement led him to leave the production of the film. Looking back on the event, Vasan shared, “After working for 50 days, I and Mr. Kashyap had a fierce argument.
Expanding upon this, the director of Jigra clarified that a dispute occurred between them while traveling together in a vehicle with Piyush Mishra. The actor became increasingly agitated by their disagreement to the point where he halted the car and urged them both to exit. He explained, “We were arguing so loudly in the car that Piyush bhai grew tired of us,” further adding that they eventually fell silent in the vehicle. However, it was during this time that Bala felt compelled to embark on his own journey.
Despite having differences in opinion, these discrepancies didn’t affect the strong bond between them. In a recent interview, Monica, O My Darling’s director mentioned that Kashyap is compassionate, and even though he parted ways with Gangs of Wasseypur, Anurag facilitated opportunities for Bala in other projects.
As Vasan Bala mentioned, it was all thanks to the Black Friday director (presumably a movie) that he had the chance to collaborate with English film director Michael Winterbottom. Back in 2011, Winterbottom sent an email to someone named Anurag expressing his desire for someone to help him on his upcoming drama film, Trishna. Michael then asked Vasan if he would be willing to assist him on the project.
Immediately following this, Anurag shared the news of the email with him and inquired if the director of Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota would collaborate with him. Given the significant nature of the opportunity, Bala consented. Following their collaboration on a project with Michael Winterbottom, Vasan came to understand the significance of authenticity and sharing his unique narrative.
