When Govinda gifted his shirt to Raaj Kumar who used it as a handkerchief to wipe off his hands

As a die-hard fan of the legendary Bollywood actor Govinda, I can’t help but be in awe of his remarkable journey in the Hindi film industry. His magnetic screen presence and impeccable comic timing have left an indelible mark on Indian cinema.

Govinda, recognized for hits such as Hero No.1, Coolie No.1, Hadh Kar Di Aapne, and Partner among others, holds a prominent position in the Hindi film industry’s acting scene. At one point in his career, he signed up for approximately 70 films following his debut, some of which he eventually dropped later on.

In the 1989 movie “Jung Baaz,” Raaj Kumar left Govinda astonished during their acting collaboration.

Govinda gifted Raaj Kumar a shirt on Jung Baaz set

I recently came across an intriguing tale shared by filmmaker Mehul Kumar in an interview with Bollywood Thikana. He recounted an unforgettable experience he had while directing Jung Baaz, involving none other than the legendary actors Govinda and Raaj Kumar.

“When Govinda came on set wearing a shirt, Raaj Kumar praised him. However, if Govinda had realized it was a joke, he would have taken off the shirt and given it as a gift instead.”

Raaj Kumar took the shirt and turned it into a makeshift handker chief every other day on the set, using it to clean his hands.

Govinda, the actor, remained unfazed according to the director, but there’s a chance he might have been disappointed.

When Raaj Kumar asked about Govinda’s personality, recalls Mehul Kumar

During the same interview, Mehul Kumar shared an anecdote about Raaj Kumar frequently observing Govinda dance on set. According to Mehul, Raaj Kumar once inquired, “Why does Govinda always dance on the film sets?”

The Tirangaa actor remained skeptical as the filmmaker chuckled and explained that he was actually a dancer.

Before Jung Baaz, Govinda and Raaj Kumar first worked together in Marte Dum Tak (1987).

Raaj Kumar is fondly recalled for his roles in notable films such as Saudagar, Waqt, Mother India, Pakeezah, Humraaz, Dil Ek Mandir, Heer Ranjha, and Neel Kamal.
