In the world of Bollywood, Kajol and Shah Rukh Khan are an unforgettable on-screen duo. They’ve graced our screens in many timeless films like “Kuch Kuch Hota Hai” and “Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham”. Filmmaker Karan Johar, who had previously directed them, wanted to work with this dynamic pair for a third time in the film “Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna”. However, during a previous chat, Kajol shared her reason for turning down that opportunity.
Back in the year of 2006, I was completely captivated as Karan Johar unveiled his masterpiece, Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna. The film, a mesmerizing blend of romance and drama, featured the talented quartet of Shah Rukh Khan, Abhishek Bachchan, Rani Mukerji, and Preity Zinta. To my dismay, despite the box office triumph, it garnered a somewhat polarized reaction from audiences.
In their discussion, the threesome addressed the negative response towards KANK, primarily due to its storyline. The performer of Pathaan conceded that the movie faced criticism for endorsing infidelity, while Rani reminisced about people questioning her character’s decision to leave a good husband in the film.
Additionally, Karan Johar, the show’s host, inquired Kajol about her dislike for the movie’s narrative. In response, Kajol openly expressed that as a woman, she felt certain aspects of the film were problematic. Specifically, she believed Rani’s character should have made more efforts to save her marriage instead of resorting to infidelity.
She expressed, “Indeed, there were parts where I found myself at odds. You mentioned earlier that he seemed like an exceptional man, and I couldn’t comprehend why one wouldn’t remain with him, or even fall in love with him. There are certainly advantages and disadvantages to it, love often being blind. However, I didn’t share this viewpoint. In my opinion, when entering a marriage, one should be committed to making it work.” As a spectator of the movie, I wished she had made an effort to improve their relationship in some manner.
Karan Johar’s film Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna tells a tale about two characters, Dev and Maya portrayed by Shah Rukh Khan and Rani Mukerji.
