As a lifestyle expert with a keen eye for the stories behind the stars, I must say that Manoj Bajpayee’s journey is one that truly resonates with me. Having started my career at a similar juncture, sharing simple meals like atta for two rotis, and striving to make it big in our respective fields, there’s an undeniable bond between us struggling artists.
Manoj Bajpayee is widely recognized for films such as Satya, Shool, Gangs of Wasseypur, Rajneeti, and others. This esteemed actor has been a significant part of Hindi cinema since the late 1990s. Most recently, he appeared in Apoorv Singh Karki’s Bhaiyya Ji. Before making it big in showbiz, Bajpayee went through difficult times, which included sharing just two rotis with director Anubhav Sinha during his struggling days.
During a conversation with casting director Mukesh Chhabra for Mashable India, Anubhav Sinha reminisced about his 35-year-old journey with Manoj Bajpayee.
Speaking about his long-standing friendship with Bajpayee, Sinha shared, “…We’ve been sharing a single roti since our days of having only enough atta for two rotis back in 1989.
In another development related to IC 814, the Kandahar Hijack incident director disclosed that the actor had contacted him personally, expressing joy upon seeing the series. According to Sinha, Bajpayee was so pleased with his work that he made not just one but two calls to congratulate him, clearly thrilled by the outcome.
Anubhav Sinha expressed his sense of pride whenever actor Bhaiyya Ji delivers exceptional performances. Despite not having worked together on any projects, Sinha highly admires Bajpayee, stating that he is an actor one would be eager to collaborate with in every single movie.
In a subsequent discussion, the director of Mulk explained that the actor from Gangs of Wasseypur prefers not to collaborate with him, an attitude which the filmmaker respects. Interestingly, Sinha disclosed that he had proposed the project Bheed to him, but unfortunately, they couldn’t make it happen together.
In a chat with Bombay Times, Manoj Bajpayee openly discussed his struggle to secure well-rounded roles, mentioning that he’s often only offered such parts in select films. He believes he’s typecast as an actor, typically playing characters from middle and lower-middle class backgrounds, while being overlooked for high-society roles, with exceptions being Zubeidaa, Veer-Zaara, and Gulmohar.
Film director Anubhav Sinha is known for creating movies such as Tum Bin, Ra.One, Mulk, Anek, Thappad, Article 15, and Bheed. His latest project was directing the Netflix mini-series titled IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack.
The TV show, titled after the Indian Airlines Flight 814 incident in 1999, features Vijay Varma, Pankaj Kapur, Naseeruddin Shah, Dia Mirza, Arvind Swamy, and Patralekhaa. This series will be available for viewing on August 29, 2024.
