As a lifelong WWE fan, I can confidently say that The Rock‘s return to the squared circle is imminent, and I’m more excited than a kid on Christmas morning! The man is like a fine wine – he just gets better with age, and his charm and charisma are undeniable.
Apart from his surprise appearance at Bad Blood last October with his massive championship title, the WWE’s “Final Boss,” The Rock (also known as Dwayne Johnson), has been absent since the night after WrestleMania 30. With rumors swirling about his potential involvement in WrestleMania 31 coming up soon, I strongly believe we’ll witness the return of The Rock, or “Brahma Bull,” ahead of schedule.
But when?
With numerous WWE events such as the Royal Rumble and Monday Night Raw’s Netflix debut scheduled for early 2025, there will be ample chances for the star of Moana 2 to don a $500 shirt, his trademark sunglasses, and undeniably, that iconic People’s Championship belt. Here are the possible events that might ensue…
Monday Night Raw On Netflix
Since the news broke that WWE’s Monday Night Raw would start streaming on Netflix this year, fans have eagerly awaited this significant event in wrestling for quite some time. Given that popular champions like Cody Rhodes, Liv Morgan, and Bianca Belair are confirmed to attend, along with celebrity guest Travis Scott, I find it hard to imagine this will be the only star-studded appearance.
I’d find it hard to believe that Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson won’t make an appearance, perhaps merely to grace the stage, flaunt his flashy belt, give his signature “People’s Eyebrow,” and then exit until the next month’s Royal Rumble. He has a penchant for showing up on significant WWE TV milestones such as the Raw 1000 episode in 2012 and the SmackDown debut on Fox in 2019.
The 2025 Royal Rumble
As a die-hard WWE fan, I can tell you that nothing quite compares to the excitement and anticipation leading up to the Royal Rumble. It’s the event that sets the stage for WrestleMania, and it’s packed with unexpected debuts and returns by surprise entrants, making every moment unpredictable. Even if you’re not a regular wrestling fan, the Royal Rumble is an event you can enjoy with friends. And let’s not forget the possibility that The Rock might make an appearance in Indianapolis on February 1st – if he doesn’t, you just might hear “If You Smell What The Rock Is Cooking” over the speakers at Lucas Oil Stadium!
Saturday Night’s Main Event
If The Rock intends to carry on his rivalry with Cody Rhodes after his comeback, then appearing and potentially interfering in Cody’s WWE Championship match against Kevin Owens during Saturday Night’s Main Event could be a means of reigniting their feud.
It’s not clear that Dwayne Johnson, also known as The Rock, intends to keep the Undisputed Championship, given he already has the People’s Championship from the 2024 WWE Hall of Fame ceremony. However, it seems his goal is more about defeating Rhodes and the “Cody Crybabies” he often antagonizes. Making an appearance on the first episode of the primetime NBC wrestling show in almost two decades could be a powerful move towards achieving that.
He Won’t Return Until Sometime Late Next Year
If Fightful Select’s report is accurate and WWE indeed doesn’t have plans for The Rock at WrestleMania, it might be a while before we witness the “Final Boss” in action again. However, I find it hard to imagine that Dwayne Johnson would keep himself away from the company that played a significant role in his transformation into one of the 21st century’s top box office stars for an extended duration.
If Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson decides to make a prolonged comeback to the WWE beyond fleeting appearances, fans will have the opportunity to witness his ring action by subscribing to Peacock.
