In the game Monster Hunter Wilds, the Flame Sac item plays a crucial role in crafting certain weapon types. However, due to luck with item drops, some players may not know its source. The Flame Sac can be obtained exclusively from one monster, but this is only possible at lower ranks.
Our Monster Hunter Wilds Flame Sac tutorial shows you which monster to target, where to locate it, and the best methods for farming Flame Sac.
Monster Hunter Wilds: How to get Flame Sac
The Flame Sac is an occasional reward from defeating Guardian Rathalos, a creature unique to the Wyveria Ruins region. Unlike other items, it doesn’t come from a specific body part of Guardian Rathalos. So, if you’re only interested in obtaining the Flame Sac, there’s no need to focus on breaking its vulnerable areas such as wings, tail, or legs during combat. Instead, it could appear when you carve the monster following its defeat.
The key term is “might,” which means Flame Sac is a relatively uncommon item (around 20% chance) that can be obtained from carving a Guardian Rathalos. Alternatively, you can get it by trapping and tranquilizing the monster. Importantly, this item only drops from low-rank Guardian Rathalos. Once you reach chapter four and unlock its high-rank variation during the King’s Triumphant Return quest, the drop changes to Inferno Sac.
As a devoted fan, I can attest that the common Rathalos variant follows a similar pattern. These fearsome dragons exclusively appear in advanced hunting grounds, and they uniquely bestow the Inferno Sac as their reward.
Monster Hunter Wilds: How to farm Flame Sac
Once you’ve triumphed over the Guardian Rathalos during Monster Hunter Wilds’ main story, you have the chance to face it again whenever it pops up on your map within the Ruins of Wyveria’s lower-level zone. Additionally, you can make it appear by accepting the optional quest titled “His Eternal Reign.
Once you finish the primary storyline and all areas transform into high-tier environments, it’s important to note that the Flame Sac can only be obtained by replaying the His Eternal Reign quest. Given this, a more productive use of your time would be hunting high-level monsters in those zones for superior armor instead.
