There are so many items in Monster Hunter Wilds, be it from monsters, or picked up in the world. It’s easy to lose track of them all with the sheer quantity of them. And then there are the materials that you can’t even guarantee you’ll find. There are quite of few of those items too, and it’s somewhat up to chance when you’ll get them.
The Great Hornfly is one of those items. While it seems to be one of the more common of the rarer items, that doesn’t mean it’s exactly simple to find, either. Here’s where to find it, and the items you’ll need to do so.
How To Get Great Hornfly
The Great Hornfly, like other materials such as the Sinister Cloth, is an item you can’t just pick up by yourself. Instead, you have to rely on a little bit of luck, and a decent amount of simply knowing when to look in the right places.
Great Hornflies can only be found through trading with the denizens of the Wudwud Hideout. As always, Gawdygog is available for trade, but they ask for a ludicrous ten Ancient Wyvern Coins in the event that they actually have the Great Hornfly in stock.
Musharpeye is a much better offer, offering multiple different trades for Great Hornflies. These include Scarlet Ambers, Sparkly Treasures and their rarer versions. Not only are their offers more plentiful, they are in exchange for items that are much more easily acquired.
As always, make sure to activate a Gathering Boost before you make a trade, as it might just give you double the items you’re trading for.
Uses For Great Hornfly
After you’ve traded for all of these massive insects, you can put them to use. Like other rare items of this caliber, Great Hornflies are used to create new armor sets. Plural. Unlike other materials, the Great Hornfly gives you access to two new armor sets for your Hunter, the Butterfly and King Beetle sets.
Here are the skills each set comes with:
- Butterfly – Constitution, Evade Window, Evade Extender, Recovery Up, and Recovery Speed.
- King Beetle – Heroics, Foray, Flayer, Poison Resistance, Paralysis Resistance, and Sleep Resistance.
Each set also takes one Great Hornfly for each piece, meaning it would take five Great Hornflies for one armour set, and 20 in total if you wanted to make both versions of each set. That’s a lot of Great Hornflies, and a lot of trading with the Wudwuds.
