While Shooting Down A Rumor About Robert Pattinson’s Batman, James Gunn Debunked A Hilarious Claim About His Superman Movie

As a seasoned gamer who has spent countless hours immersed in various universes, I can’t help but chuckle at the bizarre rumors that float around in the DC fan community. The latest one about “Tubthumping” being played on the Superman set is just too absurd to be taken seriously! It’s like someone decided to spin a yarn about aliens landing in Metropolis and nobody batting an eye, but this…this takes the cake!

James Gunn, the co-head of DC Studios, is known for being more open than typical studio executives about upcoming DC movies and TV shows. Although he doesn’t intentionally leak spoilers, he occasionally shares information on these projects through social media, often debunking rumors. A recent example of this transparency was when he dismissed claims about Robert Pattinson’s portrayal of Batman, and also debunked a humorous speculation regarding his upcoming Superman movie.

The events unfolded after news broke about a video game set in the Batman universe being under production. Curious, a fan queried James Gunn on his social media platform if it was accurate, to which he replied that “there is absolutely no truth to this at all.” However, unexpectedly, he casually disclosed an amusing detail:

It’s not true that “Tubthumping” by Chumbawamba was played during the filming of Superman, contrary to a rumor I recently came across on Reddit.

I’m curious as to where this rumor originated. The idea that “Tubthumping” was played on the set of Superman is quite amusing, and it makes me chuckle thinking about James Gunn playing this song during filming breaks featuring David Corenswet’s portrayal of Superman. However, I can’t help but wonder why someone would bother posting about this on Reddit. After all, the fact that “Tubthumping” was played during the filming of Superman doesn’t change our expectations for this reboot in any significant way. It’s not as if we’re dealing with a major character reveal or plot twist here.

Still, I suppose it was nice of James Gunn to debunk the rumor about Chumbawamba’s hit song to the few people who saw it on Reddit. Going back to more serious news, it’s a shame that a The Batman-centric video game isn’t in the works, as that would make for one hell of an open world playable story. Maybe that will change someday, but at least fans of this corner of the DC multiverse can look forward to The Penguin premiering next month (you’ll need a Max subscription to watch it) and The Batman: Part II being set for October 2, 2026.

In regards to Superman, this upcoming movie marks the debut within the fresh DC Universe. James Gunn and co-leader of DC Studios, Peter Safran, view it as the genuine commencement of this interconnected storyline, although the animated series Creature Commandos is chronologically kickstarting things. David Corenswet is joined by a stellar cast that includes Rachel Brosnahan, Nicholas Hoult, Wendell Pierce, Nathan Fillion, Isabela Merced, Eli Gathegi, and Anthony Carrigan, among others, in the Superman film.

As a die-hard fan, I’m thrilled to join you in eager anticipation for Superman’s grand return to the big screen on July 11, 2025! While we patiently wait, let’s reminisce about his past DC adventures by revisiting “The Suicide Squad” and “Peacemaker” Season 1 on Max. By the way, did you know that “Peacemaker” Season 2 is already in the works? James Gunn has penned all the episodes for this upcoming season and will even direct three of them!
