White Dudes For Harris Founders Blame Elon Musk For X Account’s Suspension

As a seasoned observer of political happenings and social media dynamics, I find the recent saga surrounding White Dudes for Harris and Elon Musk to be both fascinating and somewhat comical. The sheer audacity of a group like White Dudes for Harris, using a platform like X (formerly Twitter), to raise funds for a presidential bid and then blaming Musk for their account suspension, is nothing short of intriguing.

Two key figures behind White Dudes for Harris, a well-known political group and popular Zoom gathering, claimed this week that Elon Musk was responsible for their official X (formerly Twitter) account being deactivated, after an enormous fundraising event that drew over 200,000 viewers.

On Tuesday morning, Ross Morales Rocketto, who played a key role in establishing White Dudes For Harris after President Joe Biden withdrew from the 2024 Democratic ticket, posted on X that the @dudes4harris account on the platform had been suspended without explanation. This occurred shortly after an engaging three-hour and twenty-minute Zoom call on Monday night, where celebrities and political figures rallied support for Vice President Kamala Harris, who is expected to be the Democratic nominee.

“He posted an image of a page he had suspended, causing Elon Musk to express fear. Later, in another tweet, he said: ‘It’s amusing how after our earnest gathering of #WhiteDudesforHarris where many men shared their vulnerability and enthusiasm, my account was suspended by @elonmusk. Since then, I’ve received numerous insults and memes from bot accounts that seem to be white supremacist, which are still active.’ “

Got @elonmusk scared.

The picture accompanying the X post states, “We raised over 4 million with 190,000 participants and left one billionaire feeling anxious,” which is a reference to the amount we collected during Monday’s fundraising event and the number of people who joined the Zoom meeting or watched it live on YouTube.

It’s not clear which specific rules the @dudes4harris account allegedly broke to warrant its suspension. However, Mike Nellis, an organizer for White Dudes For Harris, posted on his personal account during the time of the suspension an email from the company stating that the suspension was due to a violation of platform’s rules against “avoiding detection” and that it was triggered by a user complaint.

It appears that Elon Musk and Donald Trump Jr. became so alarmed by our achievements tonight that they temporarily blocked our account. However, this won’t deter us. We’re pressing on and will share more exciting updates tomorrow (assuming they don’t block me as well!).

On Tuesday, The Hollywood Reporter reached out to X’s public relations department via email, seeking an explanation for the suspension and addressing speculation that it was orchestrated by Musk. In response, they received a message saying, “We are currently occupied; please try again later.” This was the second consecutive day that The Hollywood Reporter had been met with this response from X.

At exactly 12:47 p.m., the account resumed operations and shared this message: “We’ve returned! A surge of grassroots appeals to @ElonMusk from the #WhiteDudesforHarris group led to our reactivation, allowing us to post again. Thank you for your support and continuing this dialogue while we were away. More updates soon!”

We’ve made a triumphant return! After receiving numerous appeals from the #WhiteDudesforHarris community to @ElonMusk, our account has been reactivated and we’re back to posting again. Thank you for your support during our hiatus as we continue this discussion together. Stay tuned for more updates! ❤️

In 2022, Musk, who acquired Twitter and turned it into X that year, advocated for a platform that values free thought and serves as “the town square of the internet.” However, after assuming control, he drew criticism when he temporarily suspended several prominent journalists who wrote about him.
