As a cinephile who’s seen more movies than I care to count, I must say that “Perfect Addiction” is a compelling tale that masterfully weaves love, betrayal, and self-discovery into an engaging narrative. The character development of Sienna, Kayden, and Jax is particularly noteworthy, as each character grapples with their pasts and the complexities of relationships.
The film Perfect Addiction primarily revolves around two key aspects: the life of a character named Sienna (Kiana Madeira), who is deeply invested in both male companionship and mixed martial arts (MMA). These are the central themes that dominate the narrative and the focus of the movie.
In the opening scenes of the film, we witness Sienna excelling at molding MMA fighters, with Jax (Matthew Noszka) being her most promising student yet. Their partnership flourishes both professionally and personally, as Sienna not only trains him but also begins a romantic relationship with him. However, their bond is shattered when she unexpectedly walks in on Jax engaging in an intimate act with her younger sister Beth (Bree Winslow). In the span of mere minutes, Sienna loses both her sibling and lover, setting the stage for the ensuing narrative.
So if she doesn’t end up with Jax, who does she end up with? Let’s take a look.
What Is Perfect Addiction About?
After her split with Jax, Sienna’s life takes a new course as she loses interest in reconciling with him, even though he persists in his attempts and continues an affair with her sister. Intrigued by rumors of Jax’s fight against Kayden Williams (Ross Butler) in the underground, Sienna decides to witness it firsthand, hoping to give Jax a taste of his own medicine. Unfortunately, the fight is halted prematurely by the police, and Sienna escapes the scene hastily.
The following day, Sienna talks to Kayden and convinces him to allow her to train him prior to his rematch with Jax, in return for accommodations in his apartment. Initially maintaining a professional demeanor, their relationship eventually evolves into something more romantic due to the close proximity of their work together. However, Sienna often finds herself contemplating Jax, especially since he doubts her abilities as an MMA fighter. Yet, Kayden encourages her, believing she can fight for any cause that matters to her, whether it’s within or outside the MMA ring.
They seek additional assistance from the proprietor of Sienna’s gym, a well-regarded mixed martial artist named Julian (Manu Bennett), who has some connections in the underworld but supports Sienna. Therefore, he consents to aid them in preparing for Kayden’s upcoming match against Jax.
How Does Perfect Addiction End?
The day prior to their fight, Sienna’s friend Brent (Nicholas Duvernay) was getting married. Sienna attended with Kayden, but while Sienna was in the restroom, Jax appeared, attempting again to reconcile with her. When Kayden entered, Jax accused him of using Sienna as a means of revenge against him. As Kayden began to leave, Jax revealed some unsettling details about Kayden’s hidden past: Kayden had killed his mother. This revelation ignited Kayden’s temper, leading to an intense altercation between the two men right in the middle of the wedding reception. A chair struck Kayden, causing him to exit the celebration.
Sienna pursues him, explaining that just as Jax might be unaware of his past, she is too. However, Kayden reveals his secret: Back in high school, his mother came to pick him up from a party where he was drunk, only to be struck and killed by a driver under the influence. He doesn’t seek her sympathy, despite having at least one broken rib. Instead, he stirs up conflict with her. He insists on handling his confrontation with Jax alone and exits angrily.
The following day, on the day of the skirmish between Kayden and Jax, it seemed like Sienna wasn’t planning to attend. However, Julien decided to go, despite his opposition to the underground activities. Interestingly, Sienna appeared just as the fight began, cheering on Kayden with words of support, even though their relationship was ambiguous. In the end, Kayden emerged victorious, knocking out his opponent. However, as Sienna moved to kiss Kayden in celebration, Jax stirred and, attempting to strike Kayden, accidentally hit Sienna instead, rendering her unconscious.
So Who Does Sienna End Up With Already?
Without a doubt, she doesn’t wind up with Jax. As for her relationship with Kayden, the movie leaves it open-ended, but it seems likely that their romance persists. Despite appearing to reconcile at the end of their altercation, over the next three days while Sienna is unconscious, Kayden realizes he can’t keep her in his shadow any longer. By the time Sienna regains consciousness, Kayden has departed. Heartbroken as she may be, Sienna embarks on a new journey: learning to fight for herself.
One day in the gym, while I’m squaring off with Julian, here comes Kayden. He says he’s been thinking about me and believes my path would be clearer if he weren’t complicating things. At first, I bristle at this, feeling he still doesn’t get it. But then, he admits his mistakes and apologizes, confessing his love for me. As he prepares to leave, I call him back. I admit I was initially furious with him, but now realize I was just clinging to my anger. Kayden opens up even more, revealing he’s given up on underground fights and is planning to attend school come fall.
As a film enthusiast, I interject, expressing my gratitude towards Kayden for illuminating the gym even after our last encounter wasn’t a fight I found appealing. Then, Sienna poses an intriguing question: could the gym benefit from having a champion? Julian then inquires if Kayden is considering a professional career, but Sienna swiftly clarifies; it’s not Kayden who will be fighting, but her. This prompts a quick sequence of Sienna sparring with Kayden, with me observing, and before we know it, the screen fades to black.
While it’s highly suggested that Sienna wound up with Kayden in the storyline, the film didn’t delve deeply into that aspect. Instead, the focus was predominantly on Sienna’s training, giving an impression that the love triangle between Jax, Sienna, and Kayden took a backseat. A more impactful narrative could have been created if the movie had placed Sienna’s struggle with her fighting at the forefront. Despite the initial emphasis on the romantic entanglements throughout the film, it turns out that Sienna’s combat skills are what truly matter in the end. Stream now on Prime Video.
