Who Is Agatha All Along's Joe Locke Actually Playing? Here Are My Biggest Theories About His Mystery Character 'Teen'

As a long-time Marvel fan and comic book enthusiast who has seen his fair share of twists and turns in the MCU, I must say that the theories presented here are quite intriguing!

Among Disney+ fall TV premieres, Agatha All Along, a spinoff from WandaVision, stands out as one of the most intriguing due to its enigmatic nature. Ever since Kathryn Hahn’s character Agatha Harkness appeared in Westview, fans have been eagerly anticipating updates on her witchy exploits post-Wanda’s hex and the recovery of her distinctive purple powers. A more intriguing query arises: who is this enigmatic Teen figure?

As a dedicated fan, I’ve been captivated by the playful marketing strategy behind this show, with its amusing false title reveals and emphasis on the Witch’s Road. Yet, what has truly piqued my interest is the intriguing mystery surrounding Joe Locke’s character. Officially known as “Teen” in the early episodes of the series, there’s been a deliberate silence from the cast and crew about his true identity. Consequently, I, like many others, have been crafting theories to unravel this enigma surrounding the newest addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

BIlly Maximoff/Kaplan

It’s highly likely that Billy, Wanda’s son, will be unveiled as the Teen character, according to showrunner Jac Schaeffer and company. This revelation, towards the end of the season, carries an emotional weight, suggesting that Teen could be a revived version of Marvel’s beloved sorcerer. Whether or not he takes on the name Wiccan within this series is yet to be seen, but it certainly seems fitting.

To put it straight from a fan’s perspective, I can’t help but feel anticipation building up for Wiccan to join the New Avengers team. It’s hard not to suspect that Teen might just be Billy in disguise somehow. But let’s not forget our past lessons – like the Ralph Bohner fiasco and the confusing Mandarin/Trevor Slater situation – which serve as reminders of Marvel Cinematic Universe’s knack for delivering unexpected twists and turns that would make even a seasoned baseball player wince.

Joe Locke, who plays a character in the show, has stated that most fan theories are incorrect (as reported by SFX). This statement might not be completely accurate, considering it could be that he’s only privy to incorrect theories due to his colleagues. With no official answers coming from the series any time soon, let’s continue brainstorming other possibilities for how events may unfold.

Agatha’s Son Nicholas Scratch

In WandaVision, although the rabbit character wasn’t explicitly revealed as Agatha’s son Nicholas/Jack Scratch, the name Señor Scratchy was a significant hint at their comic book connection. Director Matt Shakman shared that initial plans for the finale included transforming the bunny into some demonic form, suggesting that it won’t simply be an ordinary pet in Agatha All Along.

As a gamer, imagine if Scratchy, my character, somehow managed to seize control over Joe Locke’s persona, enabling us to tackle the Witch’s Road trial alongside Agatha. He would even cast sorcery upon himself, transforming into a human body. Now, this doesn’t explain how his spirit wound up in a rabbit originally, but that’s a story for another time, which I’m sure will be fully addressed on the show.

Despite the fact that it may not be Agatha’s son, I would still find myself captivated by whatever mysteries are hidden within the rabbit, should they manifest somehow.

A Mephisto Minion

Given that WandaVision served as a trampoline for Mephisto theories to bounce around without confirmation, it seems reasonable to expect that Agatha All Along might follow a similar pattern. Previously, I had theorized that the character played by Joe Locke could be a teenage incarnation of the malevolent antagonist. However, instead of outright suggesting this, I believe the revelation that his character cannot utter his own name implies that another entity is in command. This mirrors the way Agatha manipulated events on WandaVision.

Similar to many who delve into this specific topic (instead of Señor Scratchy’s), upon seeing the censored mouth in the preview of Agatha All Along, my mind immediately jumped to the idea that it wasn’t akin to a zipper’s zig-zag pattern, but rather resembled an elegant “M.” I’m not sure if Mephisto would be so stylish with his handwriting, but it’s not entirely implausible.

It’s plausible that Mephisto had reasons for ensuring Agatha maintained her powers and position to enhance them significantly, despite the peculiarity of his method which involved using a teenage boy as a vessel. However, remember, we’re not dealing with an ordinary being here; we’re talking about a Hell-dweller, where the norm is anything but ordinary.

Wanda Maximoff

As a gamer, I can’t imagine the same Wanda Maximoff character, portrayed by Elizabeth Olsen, transforming into another form just to restore Agatha’s powers. It would be frustrating for fans if Teen turned out to be an entirely different variant of Wanda with her own unique motivations and backstory. Plus, it doesn’t seem like Olsen is eager to jump back into the role after “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Given all that, I must admit that if it were discovered that the Teen had a “M” for “Maximoff” on her mouth, and she was indeed guiding him along the Witch’s Road to ultimately create authentic forms of Billy and Tommy, I’m definitely on board with this twist.

However, just to clarify, this is valid only when it’s confirmed that Locke’s character will indeed be Wiccan in future canon, and that he will embody the best possible portrayal of the character. Nothing short of that will suffice.

Hiram Shaw

Instead of every theory aligning with the current Disney+ series and Marvel Cinematic Universe, let’s propose an idea inspired purely by comic book stories. The most plausible source of reference could be the rich history of the Harkness family.

In the comic series “X-Men: Hellfire Club” by Ben Raab and Charlie Adlard, the character Hiram Shaw has connections to Salem’s past. His son Obadiah was in a romantic relationship with Abigail Harkness, who is believed but not yet confirmed as a relative of Agatha. Although his backstory isn’t overly complex or explains why he has resurfaced as a teenager four centuries after the witch trials, his connection to the Harkness family offers a hint of intrigue.

Additionally, the Shaw family lineage holds significance within Marvel’s storylines, particularly in connection with the X-Men narratives through the Hellfire Club. This could provide an intriguing opportunity to incorporate Agatha All Along’s mystical elements into the mutant sphere before any formal X-Men introductions in the MCU.

Could it be possible that none of our current theories align with what actually happens? Indeed, I may not have as deep an understanding of Marvel Comics as some others, and I could be overlooking brilliant ideas at this moment. However, if Teen is revealed to be anyone other than Billy, there would undoubtedly be unrest on the streets of Westview and in its surrounding forests.

On Wednesday, September 18th, I’ll be diving right into “Agatha All Along” on Disney+, where the first two episodes of this Marvel Cinematic Universe spin-off will be available for us eager fans to enjoy!
