Since “The Night Agent” debuted on Netflix, it has quickly climbed to become one of the platform’s top-viewed series. This exhilarating action thriller focuses on Peter Sutherland (played by Gabriel Basso), a low-level FBI agent stationed in the White House basement, whose primary duty is to answer the phone when it rings – though it rarely does. In reality, Peter is part of a secret counterintelligence program within the FBI called Night Action, and the phone is intended to provide aid to field agents in emergency situations. However, Peter spends most of his time examining reports rather than answering calls.

One fateful night, Rose Larkin (Luciane Buchanan) unknowingly dials the Night Action hotline at her aunt and uncle’s urging. These individuals are covert agents, operating in the field, who were assigned a unique mission that now endangers not only their lives but also national security. When they come under attack one evening, Rose manages to flee, but her relatives meet with misfortune instead. As a result, she and Peter find themselves embroiled in a vast conspiracy that could implicate some of the most powerful figures in the nation’s government, extending even to the Oval Office.

In the thrilling first season of “The Night Agent,” I found myself immersed in a tangled network of secrets and intrigue, all centering around a figure called Osprey. As events unfolded and the puzzle began to solve itself for Peter and Rose, it became apparent that Osprey was in grave peril. With so much at stake, one can’t help but wonder: who, precisely, is this enigmatic Osprey?

At the start of The Night Agent Season 1, viewers first hear the term Osprey mentioned. Interestingly, Rose’s aunt and uncle discuss warning her about it just before they meet their untimely end. However, for some time, the true identity of Osprey remains a mystery. As events unfold, we learn that Osprey is actually the code name for Omar Zadar (played by Adam Tsekhman), a dissident from the Balkans who leads the People’s Independence Front (PIF). Notably, this group has a history of explosive acts in pursuit of their beliefs. However, with aspirations to become his country’s president, Zadar is now trying to reform himself.

That being said, not everyone in the United States feels Zadar is no longer a threat to national security. As such, Vice President Ashley Redfield (Christopher Shyer) and Gordon Wick (Ben Cotton), the CEO of a government contractor, took it upon themselves to orchestrate the DC metro bombing viewers witnessed in the show’s opening scenes. However, thanks to Peter, the bomb didn’t go off at its intended location, which means he saved numerous lives, including Osprey’s. Despite the expected casualties, Redfield and Wick were willing to allow for such an atrocity if it meant assassinating someone they viewed as a terrorist without sparking an international incident.

Following the collapse of their initial scheme, the president’s top advisor, Diane Farr (Hong Chau), is summoned to manage the fallout and concealment, a secret that also eludes the president. After this incident, Zadar is falsely accused of the bombing, leaving everyone in the dark about the truth. It isn’t until a year later, when President Michelle Travers (Kari Matchett) orders a Night Action investigation, that details about the DC bombing begin to unravel, leading directly to the storyline depicted in The Night Agent‘s first season.

And Does He Appear in Season 2?

In their failed initial attempt to kill Zadar, Redfield and Wick concoct a second plan, as the foreign leader is scheduled to meet with President Travers at Camp David. Since President Travers holds a conflicting view on Zadar’s potential threat to national security, she becomes a target too, and Redfield wishes her out of the picture. However, Peter and Rose manage to uncover the bombs just in time, saving everyone from harm. Fortunately, both the president and Osprey make it through the assassination attempts, with those responsible facing appropriate repercussions.

Unlike his significant role in the storyline of The Night Agent’s debut season, Osprey is conspicuously absent from the show in its second season. However, rest assured that he’s still alive, thanks to Peter and Rose’s intervention. But alas, Osprey no longer features in the storytelling. Given that the series has moved on to a fresh narrative altogether, most characters from Season 1 are not reprised for Season 2. Nevertheless, the latest season continues to deliver the same level of excitement and suspense as the first one. You can stream both seasons 1 and 2 of The Night Agent on Netflix currently.
