As she glances through the posts, she comes across one about a discovered body, which contains a cautionary notice regarding its sensitive nature. Simultaneously, Walter (Elijah Wood) sends her a message inquiring if she’s heard anything about Lottie (Simone Kessell) and asking how she is.

Perplexed, Misty returns to her computer and discloses a picture of Lottie lying motionless on the floor at the base of an unknown building’s stairwell. Yellow tape encircles her, suggesting a crime scene. Law enforcement officers are snapping photos, indicating they’re already investigating. The program concludes, but it’s apparent that Lottie has perished, and her demise wasn’t likely due to a fall down the stairs. The enigma now is: what truly transpired, and if anyone, who might have caused her death? Suspicion readily falls on several individuals.

Moments before her passing, Lottie was spotted exiting a bank in New York City, with Bedford Street clearly visible in the background. This street is located in the West Village district of the city. While on the phone with Tai (played by Tawny Cypress), she appeared to be deep in thought or preoccupied with something.

Later on, she’s observed intently gazing into a mirror, rehearsing an apology directed at an unspecified recipient, acknowledging that there are numerous instances of wrongdoing for which she needs to express remorse. Repeatedly saying, “I know I caused you pain. I comprehend that I caused you pain,” seems to be her attempt to convey sincerity. Her distress is palpable, yet the intended recipient of this apology remains a mystery. This would turn out to be the last sighting of her while she was still alive.

Who Could Have Killed Lottie in ‘Yellowjackets’?

It appears evident that one of the remaining women is responsible for Lottie’s death, as her presence among them has been a recurring source of distress, serving as an unwelcome reminder of the traumatic events in the wilderness. While it could be any of them, there are certain individuals who stand out as potential suspects.

Taissa Wanted Someone To Die

The primary focus of suspicion appears to be Tai, given the title of the fifth episode, “Did Tai Do That?” This seems to hint at the show’s intention to steer fans towards her. However, this could be a deliberate ploy to mislead. Regardless, there is growing evidence incriminating Tai. Initially, she can be seen making calls to Lottie, seeking understanding for what “we’ll see” means, which Lottie seems uninterested in discussing. Later, Tai persuades Van (Lauren Ambrose) to let fate decide by using a deck of cards, leaving the Queen of Hearts on the street and waiting to observe who picks it up.

Eventually, donning a lengthy overcoat, I pocketed the card without a second thought. I was hot on his heels, but just as we were about to step inside his apartment, Van halted me, Tai. Despite my longing for more moments with her, I couldn’t shake off the feeling that this wasn’t quite right. Yet, driven by desperation, I yearned for a sacrifice to be made, convinced it would safeguard Van in some way.

At that moment, Tai was presumably in New York City, having instructed Van to meet her there. Given the hour she specified and the distance it would take Lottie to reach the designated spot, Tai had ample time to find Lottie, commit the act of pushing her down the stairs, and still make it for their planned date night in New York City. This timing raises suspicions about Tai potentially being the murderer, as it appears too convenient for her not to be involved. However, she also seems like an unlikely suspect because of her apparent innocence.

Shauna Was Furious With Lottie

Due to Lottie nearly causing harm to Shauna at the compound, their latest encounter wasn’t pleasant for Shauna. It was when Shauna discovered Jackie’s necklace around Callie’s neck that she became enraged and asked Lottie to leave their home. Despite Lottie claiming the necklace didn’t hold the meaning Shauna believed it did, Shauna was determined to cut all ties with her.

At Misty’s workplace, inspired by Jeff (Warren Kole) to amass some positive actions to counterbalance their past misdeeds, Shauna finds herself unwillingly trapped inside a walk-in freezer in the kitchen. During this ordeal, she experiences hallucinations and perceives Jackie, who torments her with remarks about this predicament being a suitable demise, given that it mirrors Jackie’s own manner of death.

After coming out of jail, Shauna later encounters Jeff at home. She’s beaming while cradling a cat she declares she bought in New York City because it resembles a cat that had been missing for more than a year, which Jeff was determined to find as part of his personal quest for karma. Her plan is to pass this cat off as the one that went missing, hoping to return it to the owner. Jeff finds her motives endearing but doesn’t believe it’s the proper course of action. Notably, this moment signifies that Shauna indeed visited New York City. The sight of Jackie in the freezer might have triggered painful memories of their past actions in the wilderness and prompted Shauna to put an end to everything by getting rid of Lottie.

The Killer in ‘Yellowjackets’ Could Be Someone Else Entirely

While other individuals might potentially be the culprit, they are less likely candidates. However, it’s not implausible that Walter, who has a history of killing to aid Misty, disposed of Lottie in order to get nearer to Misty himself. He may have also believed this act of retribution could provide Misty with some resolution. It was indeed Lottie who caused Natalie’s demise, and now she is no more.

In my view, it’s plausible that the mysterious individual could be someone from Lottie’s former community, now left without a home or guidance. With the compound closed, they might feel abandoned and bitter towards Lottie during their hour of need. One potential suspect is Lisa (Nicole Maines), who had originally intended to harm Natalie before the latter courageously stepped in, leading to her own demise. Overwhelmed by guilt, Lisa might have spiraled into a darker state, channeling her anger towards Lottie.

It’s improbable that Jeff carried out his good deeds objective considering his dislike towards Lottie. A troubling atmosphere seems to surround Callie, yet she was captivated by Lottie almost to the point of an unhealthy fixation. Therefore, it’s unlikely she committed the act. Additionally, Misty’s genuine shock and surprise upon learning about Lottie from Walter and viewing her photo make it seem implausible that she could be involved.

Another possibility is that Lottie may have taken her life as an act of self-sacrifice for the wilderness. She repeatedly demonstrated her readiness to give up her life if that’s what the wilderness required. If she believed the wilderness was choosing her, she would not think twice about carrying out such an action. Yet, dying by falling down a flight of stairs seems unusual for a suicide. If she died in another manner and was moved there, it’s evident this wasn’t something she could have accomplished alone.

Viewers are anticipating that Lottie’s death will significantly influence at least the upcoming episode and possibly the entire season ahead. Lottie harbored many secrets and endured immense suffering before and during her time in the wilderness. Her relationship with the voices and feelings of the wilderness might have stemmed from her mental illness. However, it cannot be ignored that peculiar events occurred, and continue to occur, among the women, which defy logic, even brainwashing.
