As a die-hard fan who has followed Lori Loughlin’s career since her days as Aunt Becky on Full House, it’s been quite the rollercoaster ride watching her make a triumphant return to the small screen after the college admissions scandal. Now, she’s back in New York City for CBS’ Blue Bloods, reprising her role as vindictive widow Grace Edwards, more than eight years after her debut.
Lori Loughlin’s TV career took a public nose-dive due to her part in the college admissions scandal, but she’s managed to recover ground in holiday movies on Great American Family, some episodes of “When Hope Calls,” and an amusing appearance on “Curb Your Enthusiasm.” Now, she’s returning to New York City for CBS’ “Blue Bloods,” reprising her role as Grace Edwards, a character she last played over eight years ago.
In the Season 7 opener, spectators might recall the moment when Tom Selleck’s character, Frank, encountered Loughlin’s character, Grace, at a memorial service for her husband Martin Edwards, who had been killed on duty ten years prior. Her storyline unfolded as she asked Frank to unjustly fail her son Louis in the NYPD training academy, with the intention of sparing him from sharing his father’s fate. However, Frank chose not to do so, and Grace became a personification of ill will afterwards.
Let’s delve into the reasons behind Grace reappearing in Frank and the group again, only five episodes prior to the anticipated conclusion of Blue Bloods in 2024.
What Lori Loughlin’s Grace Is Doing Back In The Reagans’ Lives
It appears to me that Grace Edwards has not addressed her anger issues concerning Frank Reagan for the past eight years. As suggested in her episode “New York Minute,” she seems to be harboring both grief and fury, not only over her husband’s demise but also due to Frank’s stubborn call from long ago. However, she is not directly targeting Frank with this resentment.
Just as his actions impacted his son’s life, Grace’s focus is not on Mark Reagan, but rather on Donnie Wahlberg’s character, Danny, within the Reagan family.
- Danny and Baez scrutinize an art gallery suspected of selling counterfeit pieces after a detective investigating the establishment is murdered. Also, Eddie is conflicted when she discovers her former partner turned social worker, Rachel Witten (Lauren Patten), crossed the line to get a mentally ill client much needed help; and Frank is upset when an award Danny was to be honored with is rescinded by Grace Edwards (Lori Loughlin), the widow of an NYPD officer killed in the line of duty.
A decade down the line, I find myself crossing paths with someone unexpectedly (Blood’s regular cast). It remains unclear what gives Grace the power to snatch an award from under Danny Reagan’s nose. And let’s just say, Frank’s got a trick up his sleeve that might make Grace wish she hadn’t done it… [Makes a slitting motion across my throat.]
Here’s wishing there’s genuine conflict and intriguing developments regarding her son Louis’ life over the past years, as we delve deeper into the story. And let’s pray this isn’t a situation where she retracts the award for some underhanded reason, like the prize being…allegedly tainted!!! I simply can’t wait to see Loughlin in a heated argument with Selleck and Wahlberg, I must confess.
Check out the trailer for the episode below.
As a gaming enthusiast and a fan of Blue Bloods, I can’t help but get excited about the comeback of Lauren Patten’s character, Rachel Witten. She causes quite a stir in the show when she, in her determination to aid a mentally ill client, seems to push legal boundaries, making life challenging for Eddie, her ex.
Let’s see what Lori Loughlin personally expressed regarding her potential return to join the cast of Blue Bloods.
Lori Loughlin Shares Thoughts On Returning To Blue Bloods
Discussing with Newsday, Lori Loughlin looked back on playing her role again in Blue Bloods when the main cast were still figuring out their next steps during the final stages of the series. To quote her directly:
At that moment, they were deeply sentimental and thankful for the shared memories. A great deal of love and warmth filled the air as everyone cherished the last moments together. There seemed to be a faint glimmer of optimism that perhaps CBS might change their mind. Tom frequently expressed his belief, “They’ll eventually realize their mistake.
Together with some of his fellow actors, Tom Selleck has voiced his continued hope that CBS might reconsider its decision to cancel Blue Bloods and renew it for Season 15. However, with less than a month remaining until its finale, the prospects for this appear increasingly slim.
It’s not just “Blue Bloods” where you’ll see Lori Loughlin acting in the small screen soon; she has also been confirmed to be a co-star in Dick Wolf’s latest drama series, known as “On Call“. This series is produced by the renowned Dick Wolf, famous for creating shows like “Law & Order“, the “One Chicago” and “FBI” franchises. In this new show, Loughlin will be playing a lieutenant alongside a veteran officer and a rookie, who together patrol Long Beach, CA. The series is set to have an unique style, using various non-traditional camera techniques such as bodycams, dashboard cams, cellphones, and more.
Blue Bloods airs Friday nights on CBS at 10:00 p.m. ET.
