Why Blumhouse’s ‘Drop’ Is My Most Anticipated Movie of 2025!

Even though we’re only at the beginning of 2025‘s film releases, there’s always space for unanticipated delights. However, I must confess that my anticipation for the Blumhouse production titled Drop has been growing steadily since late last year. With the trailer for director Christopher Landon’s latest project, Happy Death Day successor, now available online, I can’t help but express my eagerness to discuss how this new thriller is quickly climbing up my list of must-watch movies.

Why Drop Is A 2025 Must-See In My Eyes

In the lightning-quick, Sabrina Carpenter-boosted trailer, it’s clear that the movie Drop is poised to explore a distinctive yet familiar genre. Unfortunately, this fast-paced thriller revolves around Violet (Meghann Fahy), a widow who’s dipping her toes back into dating. A night out with Henry (Brandon Sklenar) soon turns into a tense game of cat and mouse, as an unidentified danger forces the protagonist of Drop to make a difficult choice: either eliminate her date or risk losing her loved ones.

Looking at this trailer at New York Comic Con in 2024 and then again during my latest viewing of “Wolf Man” has made me even more eager to watch this movie. The idea itself reminds me of some beloved classics, such as the movie starring Johnny Depp and Christopher Walken, titled “Nick of Time,” and also the television series “24.

Since the lively forces behind it have already teased a thrilling ride filled with heart-stopping suspense, I must admit I’m quite eagerly anticipating this film. Moreover, if the trailer wasn’t enough to pique your interest, you should definitely check out director Christopher Landon’s reasons for accepting the job.

Christopher Landon’s Excitement For Drop Is Infectious

At New York Comic Con (NYCC) during Blumfest 2024’s press line, Mr. Landon personally fueled my excitement even further about this upcoming project. Following the screening of the footage to an audience filled with dedicated Blumhouse fans, the director known for potentially one of the greatest horror films ever made took a break to discuss with several of us in the media.

Hearing the title “Nick of Time” instantly brought a smile to his face, as he along with Meghann Fahy were eagerly discussing their exhilarating journey in a suspenseful thriller. When I inquired about what drew Christopher Landon to the script for “Drop’“, written by Jillian Jacobs and Chris Roach, his insights shared with TopMob further piqued my interest:

There are two key aspects in this story that have caught my interest:

1. The plot offers an intriguing starting point, which appeals to me immediately, making it easy to grasp.
2. It’s heavily character-focused, with Megan’s journey being particularly engaging, keeping me hooked throughout the narrative.

Reading the script felt like a captivating ride; I couldn’t put it down, as it was such an engrossing page-turner. The anticipation of enjoying this story is strong, making me confident that it will be an enjoyable experience for me.

As a fan of edge-of-your-seat entertainment, I can confidently say that we could always use more realistic, heart-pounding thrillers in our film landscape. And let me tell you, if there’s one movie I wouldn’t want to miss out on, it’s Drop. This upcoming horror production from Christopher Landon and Blumhouse Productions seems like a breath of fresh air due to its down-to-earth portrayal of terror. Unlike some other horror films that rely on the supernatural, Violet’s struggle seems more relatable and grounded, promising an experience that’s just as exhilarating as any blockbuster.

Reflecting on the trailer, it’s as if they’ve crafted a film where time is relentless and death lurks around every corner. And let me tell you, as a movie enthusiast, this feels like a heartwarming reunion for both Blumhouse and Landon. Frankly, I can scarcely imagine a better scenario than if they were to announce another enticing chapter in the Happy Death Day series, taking us back to that thrilling world once more.

I’m looking forward to taking the journey to watch Drop soon, as it’s alongside Tron: Ares and 28 Years Later on my list of projects that have captured my interest. Unfortunately, we’ll need to wait until its theater release on April 11th. In the meantime, fans of Blumhouse who might have missed the remake of Speak No Evil can stream it through a Peacock subscription.
