As a gamer with a knack for reality TV and a soft spot for nurse Amanda Clark-Stoner from Pennsylvania, I found myself captivated by her story in “The Traitors“. The twist, the challenges, and the intrigue kept me hooked, but it was Amanda’s unexpected departure that left me scratching my head.
The TV series titled “The Traitors,” which is a translated adaptation from its Dutch counterpart, made its debut on Peacock in January 2023. This reality show swiftly became one of the greatest ever produced, as it follows a group of contestants competing in challenges at a Scottish castle for a substantial cash prize. However, just like any other reality competition, there’s an unexpected twist. In this instance, some participants have been secretly informed they are the traitors portrayed in the title and their goal is to eliminate the other players undetected so they can claim the reward for themselves without revealing their true identity.
In Season 1, we had a mix of reality TV scenes that surpassed those in scripted series, along with an intriguing narrative twist not previously explored. Among the 20 contestants, four were secretly traitors. One of the loyal contestants, referred to as the faithful, was Amanda Clark-Stoner, a nurse from Pennsylvania. She continued until the fifth episode before deciding to exit the show on her own accord. Initially, the audience and fellow contestants were informed, “Amanda had to depart the castle due to circumstances beyond her power.” For several weeks following this announcement, no further details about her departure were disclosed, leaving viewers and media outlets to speculate.
She tested positive for COVID-19
Following whispers about her exit, which suggested both pregnancy and a spontaneous decision to leave, Clark-Stoner ultimately chose to clarify the situation on social media. Towards the end of January 2023, she shared on Instagram that she was not pregnant, as some had speculated, but rather, herself and her husband were preparing to undergo fertility treatments. Furthermore, contrary to other rumors, she did not simply walk away from the show without a second thought.
As per Clark-Stoner’s statement, her early exit from Season 1 of “The Traitors” was due to a positive COVID-19 test result. Despite taking all possible precautions such as getting vaccinated, wearing masks during her flight to Scotland, and quarantining before and after the trip, she still contracted the virus. However, she chose to view this unfortunate situation positively, stating that unlike most “Traitors” contestants, she didn’t get eliminated by the traitors or voted off by the faithful.
