In the fresh NBC drama “Suits LA,” Lex Scott Davis portrays Erica Rollins. This spin-off from the hit USA Network series “Suits” focuses on legal professionals in sunny Los Angeles rather than New York City. Within the law firm, Erica is striving to establish herself and gain recognition. The series trailer suggests that Erica possesses a similar elegance as Jessica Pearson (played by Gina Torres), and she’s determined to outshine a fellow lawyer in a fierce rivalry.
Lex Scott Davis hasn’t just played a lawyer in ‘Suits LA’, she has a diverse acting portfolio. Recognize her? She’s been part of popular franchises like horror and comedy series, shared screens with well-known actors on streaming platforms, and starred in numerous TV shows across genres. To remind you where you might have seen Erica Rollins before, we’ve compiled a list of her projects – from limited series to the big screen.
Training Day
The crime-thriller series “Training Day,” broadcasted by CBS, revolves around Detective Frank Roarke (Bill Paxton) and his trainee, Officer Kyle Craig (Justin Cornwell). As Craig joins the LAPD’s Special Investigation Section (SIS), he finds himself under the tutelage of a detective who often bends or outright breaks the rules. This has garnered attention from higher-ups within the LAPD. The series takes place in the same world as the 2001 film, but 15 years have passed since the movie’s events. Lex Scott Davis is part of the main cast, playing Alyse Arrendondo, Craig’s wife and a history teacher who assists him in navigating his complex feelings towards Roarke.
The show ran for just one season and marked Paxton’s final project prior to his passing in 2017. All episodes were filmed before his death, with CBS still airing the season afterwards, but without Paxton’s involvement due to his untimely demise. Given its critical reception (24% from critics and 65% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes), it was doubtful that the series would carry on. The poor ratings were cited as a key reason for its termination, as reported by Deadline.
The First Purge
Fans of horror films might recall Lex Scott Davis from “The First Purge,” which is the fourth installment in the “Purge” series. This film acts as a prequel, setting up the initial purge event depicted in the “Purge” timeline. The purge experiment takes place on Staten Island and the government promises residents a payment to stay during the 12-hour duration of the event, with extra money offered if they choose to participate. However, there are other elements at work behind the scenes to make sure the event is deemed successful and can be expanded nationwide in the following year.
In a different role, the actress portrays Nya Charms, a youthful activist resisting the Purge. Initially, Nya seeks refuge in a church during the night, with a strong intention to protect others. However, her brother Isaiah (Joivan Wade) drags her into the chaos as he requires her aid in treating his wounds. Meanwhile, her former partner Dmitri (Y’lan Noel) ensures her and her companions’ safety, cautioning her that the New Founding Fathers of America (NFFA) political group is dispatching armed squads onto the island to create an illusion that people are willingly participating.
In contrast to its predecessors, ‘The First Purge’ receives a 55% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with Christy Lemire praising it as both powerful and difficult to watch in her review for What The Flick?!. Notably, this prequel explores the racial tensions and societal divisions in the nation by setting the experiment for the Purge on Staten Island.
The L Word: Generation Q
In the latest sequel or spin-off titled “The L Word: Generation Q,” Lex Scott Davis portrays the recurring character, Quiara Thompson. This series is a follow-up to Showtime’s original “The L Word.” Quiara is the former spouse of Shane McCutcheon, played by Kate Moennig, one of the original characters reprising their roles for this new edition. Across the first season, she makes an appearance in five episodes.
Quiara and Shane have grown apart due to contrasting family aspirations. Unlike Quiara who longs for children, Shane is unwilling to have any. This difference becomes a recurring point of contention in their marriage. Adding to their troubles, Quiara’s career as a professional singer frequently requires her to be away for concerts and festivals, further straining their relationship. Their divorce unfolds during Season 1 as a result of these disagreements.
Despite the fact that the actress’s character was exclusive to the first season, “The L Word: Generation Q” continued for three seasons overall. Following its termination in March 2023, Showtime took down the series from Paramount+ a month later. This action occurred after a wave of cancellations in January 2023, during which other discontinued shows such as “American Gigolo” were also removed from the streaming platform.
Sweet Girl
The 2021 Netflix movie “Sweet Girl” tells the story of Jason Momoa as Ray Cooper, a man dealing with the grief of his wife Amanda’s (Adria Arjona) death from cancer. Following information from an investigative journalist, Ray spends two years pursuing Simon Keeley (Justin Bartha), the CEO of BioPrime, who he believes is responsible for withholding a life-saving medication that could have saved his wife. The company, instead, is allegedly manufacturing a delay in its release. After killing Keeley and going into hiding with his daughter Rachel (Isabela Merced), Rachel contacts FBI Agent Sarah Meeker (Lex Scott Davis) for help. Sarah becomes instrumental in the later stages of the storyline.
Regardless of a surprising plot turn in its final act that drastically altered the narrative flow, “Sweet Girl” failed to impress both critics and viewers. Matt Zoller Seitz from RogerEbert.com described it as a “broad, brutal, occasionally complex, frequently exhausting drama,” and criticized it for being overly lengthy and disjointed.
Rebel
– Lex Scott Davis isn’t new to legal series, but she played a distinct type of lawyer earlier on.
– In the one-season ABC show “Rebel,” Davis portrayed a character who was not just a regular lawyer. The series revolves around Katey Sagal as Annie “Rebel” Bello, a woman determined to aid others while brushing aside her personal issues. Her daughter Cassidy (Davis) is hired by Rebel to assist a woman trying to escape an abusive relationship. Throughout the season, Rebel endeavors to help her boss, Julian Cruz (Andy Garcia), take action against the hospital responsible for his wife’s demise.
In 2021, the series “Rebel” was taken off the air by ABC because it wasn’t attracting enough viewers. At that time, only five episodes had been broadcasted, but the remaining five episodes of the planned ten-episode season were still aired. Although viewers on Rotten Tomatoes gave the show positive reviews, critics rated it quite low at 44%. Initially accessible on Disney+, “Rebel” was taken down from the streaming platform in 2022, even though it had been marketed as an original series for Star+ in other regions.
Florida Man
The concept of the ‘Florida Man’ gained such popularity that it was turned into a Netflix limited series in 2023. In this series, Édgar Ramírez portrays Mike Valentine, a man returning home to Florida for work. Instead of locating a mobster’s girlfriend as part of his debt repayment plan, he becomes entangled once again in family issues upon reuniting with his father. Lex Scott Davis plays Iris, who is both Mike’s former spouse and a detective.
The show received mixed reactions: Critics gave it a low score of 25% on Rotten Tomatoes, while viewers appreciated it more, rating it at 79%. Tania Hussain from Collider suggested that “Florida Man” could work better as a two-hour film. Other critics agreed that the series was overloaded with content and had an uneven pace. However, the acting was highly praised by the audience as the standout aspect of the project.
Ricky Stanicky
Viewers of comedy might recall Lex Scott Davis from the 2024 Amazon Prime Video film titled “Ricky Stanicky.” Featuring Zac Efron as Dean, Andrew Santino as JT, and Jermaine Fowler as Wes, this movie presents a humorous tale where the three invent Ricky Stanicky (portrayed by John Cena), a fictitious character they use to blame for their misdeeds, such as planning a boys’ trip to Atlantic City. However, when their family members start questioning Ricky’s identity, the friends resort to hiring an actor to play his role so as not to be exposed. Davis plays Dean’s girlfriend Erin, who works as a journalist and becomes engrossed in the myth by proposing Ricky for a bravery award on local news.
In contrast to what many viewers felt, the movie “Ricky Stanicky” received more positive feedback from audiences than it did from critics. On Rotten Tomatoes, it garnered a 47% rating from critics but a 69% approval from viewers. During promotional activities for the film, Davis only had good things to say about working with Efron and the rest of the cast. In an interview with Screen Rant, she expressed that Efron was “fantastic” and “extremely encouraging,” adding that she would gladly collaborate with him again a million times over.
