In life, there are only a few certainties: death, taxes, and Illumination’s Sing movies consistently appearing on Netflix’s Top 10 list. Fresh Netflix releases appear and vanish, while Best Picture winners briefly surface before disappearing, but these koala-centric films about a group of singing misfits consistently find their way onto the trending list and linger there for extended periods – sometimes even months. As a parent, I can comprehend why this has been the case for years now.
I don’t believe it’s some underhanded plan between Netflix and Illumination to manipulate their numbers. It’s more likely that the explanation is straightforward rather than people tampering with the streaming service’s algorithm or anything of that nature. Let me clarify…
My Kids Watch The Sing Movies All The Time (Sometimes Twice In A Row), And I Can’t Be Alone
It appears that children are responsible for the consistent popularity of both Sing and Sing 2 on Netflix, as they often leave for a short period before returning to the top 10 rankings. This could be due to the fact that these movies seem to resonate particularly well with younger audiences.
Whenever possible, my children frequently watch the “Sing” movies, often rewatching them consecutively. They’re hooked on the tunes and can’t get enough of the increasingly madcap scenarios that Buster Moon, played by Matthew McConaughey, and the rest of the witty and star-studded characters find themselves in.
It’s not just me going through this, I imagine. If all children are similar to mine, they might be repeatedly watching the movies ‘Sing‘ and ‘Sing 2.’ At least it’s more entertaining than being stuck with ‘CoComelon‘ for long periods!

When Compared To Other Kids Movies On Netflix, These Animated Jukebox Musicals Have Something For Parents As Well
One interesting aspect about the Sing films dominating the Netflix Top 10 list is that they are children’s movies that adults can also appreciate. While there are many fantastic family-friendly comedies available on the streaming platform, not many strike a chord with different age groups as effectively as these entertaining and sometimes poignant jukebox musicals do.
Even though I haven’t watched the Sing movies as frequently as my kids due to work obligations, I must confess that I’ve seen each film multiple times – whether from start to finish or in snippets while tending to household chores. The narratives are engaging, the songs are catchy, and much like other Illumination productions, the animation is spectacular, bursting with vibrant colors and energy. What else could one desire?

Though Other Illumination Movies Do Well On Netflix, They Don’t Have The Staying Power Of The Sing Franchise
Movies similar to the popular Illumination series, such as “Despicable Me,” “The Secret Life of Pets,” and even the highly successful “Super Mario Bros. Movie” have frequently appeared on Netflix’s Top 10 listings. However, none have managed to stay there as long as “Sing.” While the iconic red plumber maintained some popularity after the exceptional video game adaptation made its way onto Netflix, it doesn’t come close to the longevity that Buster Moon and his lively cast of singers have achieved.
Maybe this is a sign that the long-rumored Sing 3 needs to finally happen…
In summary, the fact that Sing movies consistently rank high on Netflix is certainly worth applauding, regardless of the reason being countless repetitions by children. It’s just part of the amusing journey of parenthood, isn’t it?
