Shah Rukh Khan is once more making headlines—this time not due to an upcoming movie blockbuster, but rather concerning his famous Mumbai residence, Mannat. As per recent reports, the Bollywood kingpin is expected to receive a refund from the state of Maharashtra, following a petition that was jointly filed by him and his wife, Gauri Khan.

According to Hindustan Times, the well-known duo has submitted a petition in order to get back around 90 million rupees. This sum, it appears, was excessively paid to the Collector of Mumbai Suburban District (MSD) for the land where their home, Mannat, is situated, as they believe an overpayment was made.

Examining the specifics, Times Now reports that the 2,446-square-meter property is jointly owned by Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri Khan. Prior to their ownership, the state government imposed a fee known as “unearned income” on this property. This charge was determined by considering the market value and the ready reckoner price of the said property.

Afterward, the Khans decided to transform the property, which was previously leased by the state government to its former owner, into a freehold property (Class 1) under a state government policy.

Back in March 2019, Shah Rukh Khan was obligated to pay around 27.50 crore rupees, which represented a quarter of the market rate at that time, as outlined in the policy.

Initially, it was found that there was a mistake in assessing the property’s value. Instead of considering the value of the land alone, the appraisal incorrectly included the value of the bungalow as well.

After finding this error, Gauri Khan made a formal appeal to the Collector, asking for a refund totaling Rs 90 million.
