Kate Hudson still had regrets about turning down a role in The Devil Wears Prada.
The actress who was originally offered the role of Andy Sachs (later played by Anne Hathaway) expressed regret on Capital FM about not being able to fit her schedule for the 2006 film, where she would have acted alongside Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci.
Hudson expressed his disappointment by stating, ‘That decision was a mistake, and it was a matter of timing. It was one of those instances where I couldn’t pull it off, but I should have found a way to make it happen and I didn’t.’ When I saw it, I felt a sense of regret, but as always, everything has its purpose. That was one of those moments when I thought, ‘I could have made that situation work.'”

“Hudson explained his frustration by saying, ‘That move was wrong, and it boiled down to timing issues. It was a scenario where I couldn’t execute it, but I should have managed to make it happen and didn’t.’ On seeing it, I felt a pang of disappointment, but as is often the case, everything happens for a reason. That was one of those times when I wished I could have made things turn out differently.
The movie “The Devil Wears Prada,” helmed by David Frankel, is a cinematic interpretation of Lauren Weisberger’s book with the same title. The story revolves around ambitious journalist Andy, who ventures into New York City and lands a job as an assistant to a renowned fashion magazine editor, the somewhat harsh Miranda Priestly (portrayed by Meryl Streep).
Hudson noted humorously that it’s a series of events unfolding and individuals acting at various instances, not that one deliberately avoids them. It’s more like being occupied with something else. And it was really disappointing, you understand?
As “The Devil Wears Prada” was being produced and subsequently released, Anne Hathaway was simultaneously involved in multiple other projects. These included “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days” from 2003, “The Skeleton Key” in 2005, “You, Me and Dupree” and “Fool’s Gold,” both released in 2006, as well as “My Best Friend’s Girl” also in 2008. Later on, she collaborated with Hathaway again for the 2009 film “Bride Wars.
The movie “The Devil Wears Prada” raked in over $326 million globally and received two Academy Award nominations. At the moment, Disney is working on a follow-up, with the original writer, Aline Brosh McKenna, drafting the script.
