Why Kourtney Kardashian And Travis Barker Followed In Chris Pratt And Katherine Schwarzenegger’s Footsteps With Their Son Rocky

Much like every child born into the Kardashian-Jenner clan since 2007, Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker’s son Rocky XIII has appeared on their reality series (the latest being The Kardashians, which recently debuted in the 2025 TV lineup) and social media feeds. However, unlike other appearances, Rocky’s face remains hidden from viewers. This is because his parents have chosen to uphold the privacy of their child, following a trend among celebrity parents.

For decades, Chris Pratt and Katherine Schwarzenegger have been selectively concealing parts of their children’s images, such as the back of a child’s head or an arm. Starting with their firstborn in 2020, Schwarzenegger has adopted creative methods to veil her baby’s face, a practice she maintained with their second child in 2022 and continued with their third child in 2024. Similarly, Travis Barker and Kourtney Kardashian have opted for the same approach when sharing photos of their first child together, with Barker explaining to the Wall Street Journal that they do this to respect their child’s privacy.

Unfortunately, someone managed to capture an image of him, but we prefer to keep him away from the limelight. If I could turn back the hands of time, I would have handled it similarly with my older children. It strikes me as odd to mature and discover that at 15 or 12, you’re saying, ‘Mom, why did you share this photo of me?’

Since Kendall and Kylie Jenner, Kourtney’s sisters, were only 10 and 11 when Keeping Up with the Kardashians started, it’s an issue that has significantly impacted Kendall for a considerable part of her life, given that she found the limelight more challenging compared to some of her sisters.

In an episode of The Kardashians (which can be streamed with a Hulu subscription), Kourtney shared her unique perspective on concealing Rocky’s face, stating as much in the show.

In California, it’s law that when a baby’s face isn’t visible, photographers must pixelate or blur images of Rocky, who has been out of sight recently.

It appears that such a mandate might be in place, although I couldn’t find detailed information beyond the 2013 legislation. As reported by the LA Times, California law considers it a misdemeanor to attempt to photograph or record a child in an intimidating manner if the reason for capturing the image is due to the child’s parent being a celebrity or public figure.

Kourtney Kardashian, Chris Pratt, and other parents have taken additional measures beyond just one step to safeguard their children’s photos from being published in gossip magazines or shared on social media platforms. Similarly, Kristen Bell and Dax Shepherd, as well as Gigi Hadid since the birth of her daughter with Zayn Malik in 2020, have been successful in keeping their daughters’ images private.

It might seem puzzling or perplexing to some fans that Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker have opted to emulate Chris Pratt and Katherine Schwarzenegger’s path, given the extensive public exposure of their lives and their children’s lives already. Yet, I find it heartening that they’re making decisions based on what they believe is best for their family at this moment, regardless of their past choices.
