Creator of “Peaky Blinders,” Steven Knight, expresses optimism that the upcoming movie will grace the big screen.
The writer of the popular Netflix series has recently revealed details to The Playlist about the eagerly awaited movie which was wrapped up for shooting several months back, boasting an illustrious ensemble cast.
He announced that we finished filming on December 13th. We’ve got Barry Keoghan, Tim Roth, Rebecca Ferguson, Cillian Murphy, and Stephen Graham in our cast. I must admit, it’s incredibly impressive.
The original TV show, which premiered on a streaming platform from 2013 to 2022 and spanned six seasons, initially planned for another season seven. However, this changed when it was revealed that Tommy Shelby’s tale would be told in a movie instead. Initially slated for Netflix release in June of last year, screenwriter Knight expresses hope that the film will also make its way to cinemas, catering to the dedicated fans.
He expressed his desire for “Peaky Blinders” enthusiasts who have significantly contributed to this project, to gather in a single theater, sharing the experience of watching it unfold. Though interactions have been primarily digital, he also yearns for this event to take place in cinemas, allowing people to enjoy the spectacle communally.
The Hollywood Reporter reached out to Netflix for comment.
Peaky Blinders is headed by Shelby, portrayed once again by Cillian Murphy, a former war hero turned gangster who controls 1900s Birmingham. The movie is being referred to as a “follow-up.” Tom Harper is the director of this feature film.
Previously, Murphy shared on the BBC radio program Desert Island Discs his affection for collaborating with Knight. He stated, “I’ve often said that if Knight provides a script I believe he can deliver, given his exceptional writing skills, I’ll be on board. If we wish to portray 50-year-old Tommy Shelby, let’s proceed with it.
The movie doesn’t have to be the final chapter of the story, since Knight hinted to Playlist that he’s ready to work on additional projects. He said, “If there’s an interest in it and I have tales to share, then why not?
