Over the course of its existence, “The Amazing Race” has undergone numerous modifications, such as transitioning to 90-minute episodes and, during the pandemic, having contestants travel by chartered jet. Despite his long tenure in reality television, Phil Keoghan, the show’s veteran host, is looking to introduce a new element before Season 37 airs on TV schedules for 2025.
Discussing on the red carpet while The Amazing Race was again nominated for a Golden Globe, the veteran reality show host acknowledged his usual sense of “honor” at attending such events. However, he subtly hinted at the monotony that can occasionally surface when performing the same job for over two decades, as Mr. Keoghan has done since 2001 with The Amazing Race. As we approach Season 37, his 24th year hosting the show, he’s attempting to view it as a “restart,” as he expressed to Gold Derby.
I’m delighted that our conversation about reality shows continues. The other day, someone mentioned a phrase where people often say, ‘I must go handle this and I must go handle that.’ Instead, I’ve been attempting to shift my perspective to, ‘I get the opportunity to do this and I get the opportunity to do that.’
It’s my genuine opinion that maintaining such a balanced viewpoint is truly beneficial. Although it might be challenging for others to grasp the notion that hosting a television program could seem like an onerous task, let’s remember it’s still work, and every job has its mundane or difficult aspects. However, the reality host recognizes that there are certainly less appealing jobs out there. To keep things in perspective for the upcoming season, he intends to focus on the exciting perks the show offers him as well.
Phil Keoghan recently shared insights into one of the toughest aspects of producing The Amazing Race. Often, people wonder about his role during the race, but he explains that they overlook the fact that he and the production team must travel alongside the racing teams, and in a limited timeframe, they need to set up for the end of each challenge, film all the stand-up segments where Phil explains the contestants’ actions, and capture it all on camera.
Fans Wonder…
How Much Do Amazing Race Contestants Make?
As a devoted movie enthusiast, I must admit that the prospect of continued hosting duties for Race feels increasingly taxing, given the advancing age of our beloved host Keoghan (currently 57 years old). Over two decades in the game is no small feat, and while I know many fans would be disheartened to see him step down from his role, I can’t help but imagine that, with the twilight of his career approaching, thoughts about what lies ahead might naturally start to occupy his mind.
As a movie enthusiast, I’d venture to say that Phil was undergoing a mental transformation during the filming of The Amazing Race 37, and I have a feeling we’ll get to witness this on our screens. It’s clear that he was thrilled to be nominated at the Globes once more, expressing admiration for other reality shows and the “exceptionally gifted individuals” associated with them. He couldn’t help but express how monumental it was to be in the very room where it all happens.
