As a dedicated viewer of the Real Housewives franchise for over a decade now, I must say, the latest season of RHONJ has left me feeling more like a housewife trying to put out fires than an entertained viewer. The lackluster finale was the final straw that broke this fan’s back. It was hyped up as an explosive exposé, but instead, we got slow-motion entrances and unresolved drama.
Previously, Bravo’s “Real Housewives” franchise was known for hosting some of the greatest reality shows ever, keeping viewers entertained. However, recent spin-offs, including “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills,” have been struggling to maintain viewer interest. Most recently, Season 14 of “The Real Housewives of New Jersey” has failed to satisfy fans like me, and they’ve expressed their discontent on social media. This decline in quality can be largely attributed to a dull finale.
Midway through the season, executive producer Andy Cohen disclosed that there wouldn’t be a reunion special for New Jersey at the end of Season 14. This came as a surprise to long-time fans, who were accustomed to these recaps. While it pleased Teresa Giudice and some other cast members, it left many fans feeling shocked. However, they were repeatedly assured that this decision was necessary and that everything would become clear in the final episode. Now, the much-anticipated finale is streaming with a Peacock subscription, but fans are far from satisfied with the outcome. On the contrary, it has made them yearn for a reunion, hoping to gain more insight into certain storylines. For instance:
Unfortunately, it’s become usual in the world of the Real Housewives for season finales to be underwhelming, but this one really stands out due to its excessive hype. What was marketed as a dramatic exposé of a dinner where everyone would air their grievances ended up being just twenty minutes out of an hour-long episode.
The main event of the episode was supposed to be the dinner, but it ended up taking a back seat. Instead, viewers got an extended scene featuring Dolores Catania (a future star on Season 3 of The Traitors) arguing with Margaret Josephs about issues from last season that remained unresolved. To make matters worse, fans had to endure several minutes of the women boasting about the dinner and then watch in slow motion as they walked into the restaurant.
From the sneak peek trailers prior to this season, it’s clear that additional footage of the pivotal dinner scene was filmed. However, what was shown in the broadcast was approximately twenty minutes featuring the women exchanging harsh words and attempting to dissuade each other from departing. A fan expressed their thoughts on this matter through X.
Some viewers have discussed additional scenes hinted at in the trailers, which didn’t appear during the series finale. Here’s a notable instance mentioned by a commentator:
During the final minutes of the evening, a significant disclosure was made by Jackie – she had met with Teresa’s estranged ex-husband’s former partner. This surprising confession, described as “explosive,” left most of the women at the table in shock. However, the focus of attention remained unfazed and continued to cast blame on Margaret. I, for one, was expecting a more dramatic response from Teresa following the revelation, considering her past actions like the infamous table-flipping incident earlier in the series. Yet, her lack of reaction perplexed many, even Jennifer Aydin, her on-screen friend.
In a disappointing turn, the show ended abruptly without the usual post-episode snapshots that showcase the current activities of each cast member. This was the main flaw in the finale’s production.
As an enthusiast, my main observation is that if Real Housewives of New Jersey (RHONJ) intends to carry on, it requires a comprehensive renovation, much like New York underwent. Interestingly, I’m not the only one thinking this way, as numerous reality TV fans have voiced similar opinions on social media, as illustrated by these posts:
As a long-time fan of this show, I must say I find it quite intriguing that there’s an extra episode coming up next Sunday. Being someone who has followed the women’s journey for seasons now, I can’t help but feel a sense of anticipation and curiosity about how this quasi-reunion will unfold. On one hand, I hope it provides the closer and more explosive moments that many of us have been eagerly waiting for in the finale. However, based on past experiences with reality TV reunion episodes, I’m not holding my breath for too much drama or substance. Fingers crossed that this special event will live up to the hype!
14 seasons of “The Real Housewives of New Jersey ” can be streamed on Peacock. Don’t miss the upcoming special episode airing on Bravo this Sunday, August 11th. Additionally, keep an eye on the 2024 TV schedule for updates on more reality TV shows coming soon.
