Why Sarah Michelle Gellar Got in “Trouble” Posting ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’ Reboot Set Photo

As a seasoned gamer of Hollywood’s most intriguing sets, it’s safe to say that I’ve seen my fair share of production secrets and closed-set policies. However, even with my extensive background in the industry, I must admit that Sarah Michelle Gellar managed to catch me off guard with her premature Instagram post from the set of the I Know What You Did Last Summer reboot.

Sarah Michelle Gellar admitted she faced some minor issues after sharing a picture taken on the set of the I Know What You Did Last Summer remake.

The actress who was in the 1997 movie, featuring Freddie Prinze Jr., Jennifer Love Hewitt, and Ryan Phillippe as co-stars (and now her husband), posted an image from the set on November 27th that depicted a chair bearing the title of the film. This post sparked much discussion online about a possible remake.

She commented during her Tuesday interview on Live With Kelly and Mark, “Given my circumstances, one would assume I’m well-versed in the rules regarding sets, particularly when they refer to closed sets. My husband was starring in a movie at the time, which coincidentally happened to be Thanksgiving. So, we took our children to Australia to see him. While on set, I found myself thinking, ‘What an excellent photo,’ and then I shared it.

However, the Buffy the Vampire Slayer alum later learned she posted the pic a bit too early.

She clarified, “I discovered they hadn’t shared any photos from the set or made an announcement about starting filming yet. That was a ‘Whoops, my mistake!’

Kelly Ripa noted that Sarah Michelle Gellar’s Instagram account has a significantly larger fanbase compared to the official account of the Cruel Intentions reboot (Gellar boasts over 4.6 million followers, while the film’s page has barely 4,500). However, the actress from Cruel Intentions disclosed that the movie’s page was established later as a result of Gellar’s unexpected post.

Initially, Gellar expressed interest in the new sequel on an informal basis, but her husband is set to resume his character and Hewitt is currently negotiating for a comeback. The original film focuses on four friends connected by a sorrowful incident who are reunited when they encounter a murderer armed with a hook in their coastal town.

In 1998, Prinze Jr. and Hewitt reappeared in the sequel titled “I Still Know What You Did Last Summer”. The new remake, helmed by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson who is a friend of Gellar’s, will feature Camila Mendes, Madelyn Cline, Sarah Pidgeon, Tyriq Withers and Jonah Hauer-King in the leading roles.

Sony’s I Know What You Did Last Summer is set to be released next summer.
