In the spring of 2025, I found myself wrapping up another gripping season of “The White Lotus,” HBO’s renowned drama series. Just like before, the heart of the story remains the same – the lavish resort setting. Our review described this season as sharp, chaotic, and engaging. Set at one of the branches of the prestigious White Lotus global resort chain, it continued the tradition of introducing a fresh cast, with a few familiar faces sprinkled in to give us a leg up on the unfolding drama.
Gary, who was once Greg and made appearances in both Season 1 and 2, is one of the returning characters, while Chloe, a newcomer for Season 3, represents the fresh blood. It’s an intriguing blend, keeping the old and introducing the new, much like the seasons themselves.
It appears that Chloe, portrayed by the talented French-Canadian actress Charlotte Le Bon, seems primarily focused on enjoying the perks of dating a wealthy and influential man. She spends her days lounging on the beach, sailing on Gary’s yacht, and reveling in being a negative influence on both acquaintances and strangers. However, it’s important to note that Charlotte Le Bon wasn’t always cast as Chloe; Thai actress Francesca Corney was initially chosen for the role but was later replaced by Le Bon after spending around a month on set. The reason for this switch remains unclear.
Producers reportedly decided that Francesca Corney was too young to play Chloe
It wasn’t until March 2024, a few months before Season 3 of “The White Lotus” premiered, that the news broke that Francesca Corney had been replaced by Charlotte Le Bon as Chloe. This information didn’t come from HBO or any official sources, but rather from people close to the production. They mentioned that at the time when Le Bon took over, the character of Chloe was being developed to be older in appearance and acting, which fits well with Le Bon being around seven years older than Corney. The show emphasizes Chloe’s French-Canadian heritage, leading viewers to question how Corney’s Thai background might have influenced the original version of Chloe.
It’s intriguing to see images from the set of “The White Lotus” where Corney, rather than Le Bon, is seen with other cast members. These snaps have been shared on platforms like Jason Isaacs’ Instagram, who plays Timothy in the series. This offers fans brief glimpses of the Bangkok-born actress as part of the group instead of Le Bon. It seems losing this role was a setback for Corney, who has only a handful of roles so far, such as Netflix’s “Fistful of Vengeance” and some episodes of “The Buccaneers” on Apple TV+. However, she has several upcoming projects in the pipeline. The one generating the most buzz is Amazon’s psychological thriller series “The Girlfriend,” which stars Robin Wright (who also directs) and Olivia Cooke.
Charlotte Le Bon made the role of Chloe her own
In essence, it seems like the switch from Francesca Corney to Charlotte Le Bon as the character Chloe in “The White Lotus” Season 3 was likely beneficial. While it’s hoped that Corney has a prosperous career ahead, Le Bon’s portrayal of the ex-model was exceptional and fitting for the role. Notably, Le Bon transformed the character into a French-Canadian expat instead of the original native Thai woman, demonstrating her skillful acting abilities.
Although the main cast still appears predominantly white, Season 3 offers additional Thai characters played by talented actors such as Lalisa Manobal as Mook, the resort’s health mentor; Tayme Thapthimthong as Gaitok, the security guard; and Lek Patravadi (often referred to as Thailand’s Judy Dench) as Sritala, one of the White Lotus owners. Notably, Patravadi agreed to come out of retirement for this role after being persuaded by Mike White, the show’s creator.
Speaking of Le Bon, she’s not just a familiar face on screens with numerous films under her belt, but she also lends her voice in various projects such as voicing Joy (also known as Joie) in the French versions of “Inside Out” and its sequel. Additionally, she has ventured successfully into writing and directing. Her 2022 debut coming-of-age drama film, “Falcon Lake”, received critical acclaim. The movie was nominated for the Golden Camera award at Cannes Film Festival, and Le Bon took home several awards from other festivals, including the prize for best first feature film at the Canadian Screen Awards.
