In comparison to his previous films, Batman Forever held the record for being the most expansive and costly production, amounting to approximately $100 million in 1995, which is equivalent to around $207 million today. However, it was not the lead character or he himself who garnered the most attention; instead, it was Jim Carrey whose popularity skyrocketed within a year. This rapid rise in fame did not sit well with Michelle Pfeiffer (Jones), who played Catwoman.

As the movie was already deep into its production phase, Carrey decided to have dinner. This happened just before he and Jones were scheduled to shoot their first significant scene together. Upon informing the host about his arrival, Carrey discovered that Jones was also dining there. Consequently, Carrey walked over to engage his co-star in conversation (according to The Hollywood Reporter).
“I went over and I said, ‘Hey Tommy, how are you doing?’ and the blood just drained from his face. Like he had been thinking about me twenty-four hours a day. And he got up shaking — like he must have been in mid kill me fantasy or something like that. And he went to hug me, and he said, ‘I hate you. I really don’t like you.’ And I said, ‘Gee, man, what’s the problem?’ and pulled up a chair, which probably wasn’t smart. And he said, ‘I cannot sanction your buffoonery.'”
Later, Macdonald presented his explanation for the high tension levels. To be honest, it aligns well with reality considering Jones is a major Hollywood figure, but Carrey’s charisma (particularly in those days) was nothing less than captivating, as eloquently put by the late comedian himself: “It was magnetic.
“I think he’s well-known and accustomed to being in the spotlight. However, if you enter a room, he might not be the focus of attention.

1994 was undeniably my breakout year as a leading actor, following minor roles on In Living Color and films like Peggy Sue Got Married and The Dead Pool. However, it was Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, The Mask, and Dumb and Dumber that truly catapulted me to stardom, each of them raking in impressive box office numbers that year.
