From what we gather from the initial trailer of “Wicked: Part Two” shown exclusively to theater owners and media personnel at CinemaCon 2025, it appears that several characters previously seen in the Oz universe will make a comeback in the sequel. This includes some characters who didn’t have a direct appearance in the first movie.
It’s clear that “Wicked” was one of the most successful movies in 2024, based on its outstanding box office numbers, so it’s understandable that people are eagerly anticipating the sequel, “Wicked: For Good,” to deliver similar excitement.
In the continuation of the tale initially presented in the first film, titled “Wicked: For Good“, we delve deeper into Elphaba’s story, but also shed light on the fates of other characters like Glinda and Fiyero. The new movie is set to premiere in cinemas on November 21, 2025.
Confirmed Characters Returning in Wicked Part 2 Movie
Elphaba
In the musical “Wicked”, while Ariana Grande (as Glinda) and Cynthia Erivo (as Elphaba) shared the leading roles, it was undeniably Elphaba’s tale that took center stage.
Without any doubt, it’s clear news to all that Elphaba is coming back in “Wicked: For Good“. In the initial movie, Elphaba made her escape from the Emerald City on a broomstick, with Glinda left behind.
In all probability, the sequel to For Good will resume Elphaba’s tale, detailing the steps that ultimately transform her into the Wicked Witch of the West as depicted in The Wizard of Oz.
The new movie trailer revealed that Elphaba is planning to unmask the Wizard as a liar. A scene depicted her soaring through the clouds, writing “The Wizard is deceitful” with smoke from her broom.
The trailer additionally showcased Elphaba delving into the Grimmerie she had acquired upon departing the Emerald City, all while hinting at a covert encounter between Elphaba and Glinda at certain moments within the movie.
Glinda
The CinemaCon trailer for “Wicked: For Good” showcases Ariana Grande’s Glinda extensively, suggesting that she will play a significant role throughout the narrative.
From the trailer, it appears that Glinda is portrayed as being manipulated by Madame Morrible, potentially leading to tension with Elphaba. Additionally, there’s a scene where Glinda seems to be marrying Fiyero, although it suggests he may not truly wish to do so.
In a humorous manner, Glinda showed her wit when Elphaba said to her, “You’re the only friend I’ve ever had,” to which Glinda retorted playfully, “I’ve had numerous friends… You, however, are the one who truly mattered.
The Wizard
In the trailer, it was mentioned that Jeff Goldblum’s character, The Wizard, made a fleeting appearance. It was disclosed in the initial film that he and Madame Morrible were collaborating extensively, so they are planning to join forces to ensure Glinda remains under their control.
Additionally, it’s interesting to point out that the trailer suggests a significant role for The Wizard, who seems to exert quite a bit of influence over Glinda in the forthcoming film.
Fiyero
In the initial release, Fiyero was greatly admired by audiences; therefore, it brings joyful news to learn that he is coming back, as indicated in the CinemaCon trailer.
In the musical “Wicked: For Good,” Fiyero’s character development undergoes a significant shift, which longtime fans will recognize as a departure from his original trajectory. The recently released trailer hints that he will assume a role within the Emerald City guard, with aspirations to assist Elphaba if she were ever to reappear.
Fiyero was also seen in the trailer getting married to Glinda, much to his dismay.
Madame Morrible
In the trailer for “Wicked 2”, Madame Morrible appears to have a considerable impact. Given her role as a highly manipulative adversary in the initial film, it appears that she may become an even more formidable antagonist in “For Good”.
In the preview, Madame Morrible appeared with Glinda and The Wizard, making a concerted effort to disseminate falsehoods and manipulative statements about Elphaba.
Dorothy
In the original production of “Wicked”, Dorothy only had a fleeting moment on stage. However, the trailer for “Wicked: For Good” hints at a more significant part for Dorothy’s character in the upcoming sequel.
Many are familiar with the tale of Dorothy’s journey to Oz following a whirlwind, and the preview for “For Good” showcases a recognizable scene of Dorothy meeting The Wizard.
Dorothy’s involvement was already confirmed, and many speculated about who would play her.
Scarecrow
In the trailer, a brief glimpse was given of the Scarecrow’s appearance. Readers who are familiar with the tale can easily identify his part, as the trailer depicted him standing together with Dorothy and their group in front of The Wizard.
The Tin Man
Readers well-versed with books are already acquainted with The Tin Man’s character traits, so they wouldn’t find it unexpected to discover his appearance in the teaser for For Good.
Like Scarecrow, The Tin Man was also seen in front of The Wizard and beside Dorothy.
Cowardly Lion
In the classic 1939 movie “The Wizard of Oz,” the Cowardly Lion was another memorable character. He made a brief appearance in the musical “Wicked” as well.
I’ll be making an appearance in “Wicked: For Good” too, sharing screen time with characters like Scarecrow, The Tin Man, and Dorothy in the same scene.
In the upcoming show, “For Good,” other actors and characters from “Wicked” might make an appearance, however, only the principal cast members were shown in the trailer.
Wicked: For Good will fly into theaters on November 21, 2025.
