As a seasoned gamer with an eye for cinematic masterpieces and a heart full of nostalgia for Broadway musicals, I can confidently say that the National Board of Review’s choice of “Wicked” as the best film of 2024 is nothing short of magical. The fact that it’s an adaptation of a beloved musical only adds to its charm. Jon M. Chu’s directorial vision has truly brought this story to life, and the collaboration between Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande has undeniably left a mark.
The National Board of Review has named Wicked as its best film of 2024.
The movie adaption of the successful Broadway musical, which is both critically acclaimed and commercially successful, with aspirations to compete for an Oscar, also received two additional accolades from a distinguished panel. The honors bestowed by the National Board of Review are determined by a group consisting of film aficionados, filmmakers, industry experts, scholars, and students.
In the accolades bestowed by National Board of Review, director Jon M. Chu of the movie “Wicked” was honored as the top director. Meanwhile, Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, the stars of the film, were recognized with a special award for their remarkable teamwork in their creative endeavors.
Annie Schulhof, president of NBR, stated that ‘Wicked’ showcases the enchanting power that movies possess for their viewers. Every aspect – from the meticulous details to the outstanding performances by the actors, and the exceptional music – come together to create a unique, immersive experience that transports you unlike anything else. The NBR takes great pride in recognizing director Jon M. Chu and his extraordinary cinematic vision.
Last year, NBR’s top film was Killers of the Flower Moon.
This year’s recipients of the NBR award will be feted at a grand ceremony, known as an awards gala, taking place at Cipriani 42nd Street in New York on January 7th (Tuesday), and the event will be overseen by NBC News host Willie Geist.
