As a long-time fan of musicals and the beloved world of Oz, I am beyond thrilled about the upcoming release of “Wicked: For Good”! Ever since I first saw the Broadway production back in 2003, I’ve been captivated by the rich storytelling, unforgettable music, and the complex characters that inhabit this magical world.
Wicked: Part 2 has magically altered its title ahead of next year’s theatrical release.
This month, the sequel to the recent box office success “Wicked” will be officially named “Wicked: For Good”. Universal Pictures revealed this new title on Monday. The two-part film adaptation of the Tony Award-winning Broadway phenomenon has been under development since its stage debut in 2003.
Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo will appear in director Jon M. Chu’s upcoming film, set to be released on November 21, 2025. The anticipation for this second movie is evident, as the first one has already earned over $520 million worldwide and continues to climb towards the holiday season.
In the vein of author Gregory Maguire’s 1995 novel “Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West,” the musical “Wicked” narrates the backstory of characters from “The Wizard of Oz” prior to Dorothy’s arrival. In this production, Grande assumes the role of Glinda, while Erivo embodies Elphaba.
Completing our ensemble for the sequel, we have Jonathan Bailey, Ethan Slater, Bowen Yang, Peter Dinklage, Michelle Yeoh, and Jeff Goldblum joining us.

In his critique of “Wicked” for The Hollywood Reporter, lead film critic David Rooney stated that producers have taken their time to adapt this profitable asset into a film. Now, their patience has been rewarded generously in Jon M. Chu’s visually stunning adaptation. This movie not only enhances the original story but also pays tribute to the classic Technicolor MGM musicals of the Golden Age, with “The Wizard of Oz” standing out as a notable reference.
More to come.
