The release date for the second “Wicked” movie adaptation of the hit Broadway musical has been changed from November 26, 2025, to November 21, 2025 – a Friday. This shift provides extra time for buzz about the film to grow through word-of-mouth, and it also ensures that it won’t be released on the same day as “Zootopia 2” from Disney, which is scheduled for release on November 26, 2025.
Shifting our sequel’s release date by five days coincides with Universal changing the release date for “Wicked Part Two” from December 25, 2025 to November 26, 2025, which falls on a Wednesday. Both Universal and the filmmakers have moved forward the premiere of “Wicked: Part One” as well, from December 25, 2024 to November 27, 2024, in an effort to establish the film series as a Thanksgiving tradition for movie enthusiasts.
As a devoted fan, I can’t help but share my excitement about the “Wicked” movies! These cinematic masterpieces are brilliantly brought to life on-screen by Winnie Holzman, the book writer of the original stage production, and Stephen Schwartz, an Academy Award winner in composition and lyrics. The Broadway musical itself is a magnificent creation produced by Universal Stage Productions.
Under the guidance of director Jon M. Chu, the movie titled Wicked delves into the previously unknown lives of the witches from Oz. In this production, Cynthia Erivo portrays Elphaba, a rebellious outcast who is still unaware of her hidden strength, while Ariana Grande brings Glinda to life, a well-liked young lady blessed with privilege and aspiration, but yet to understand the depths of her own kindness.
In an unexpected friendship, these two women find strength in one another, unaware of the impact they’ll have on each other. However, as shadows of prejudice and suppression threaten their world, their decisions will diverge their paths, leading them down distinct journeys that will transform both themselves and Oz for the better.
