The X-Men are slowly being integrated into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and fans eagerly anticipate who will be chosen to portray these legendary characters. Interestingly, Wicked star, an Emmy, Grammy, and Tony Award winner, has recently expressed her interest in playing Ororo Munroe, also known as Storm.
During an interview with the National Board of Review, actress Cynthia Erivo, who has garnered rave reviews for her portrayal of Elphaba Thropp (the Wicked Witch of the West) in the box office smash hit Wicked, was queried about which character she’d most like to play next. Without much deliberation, Erivo expressed a desire to embody Storm, believing that she could add depth to this role and effectively portray the internal struggles that the character experiences. Given her impressive performance in Wicked, which she will reprise for the sequel Wicked: For Good, it’s clear why many are intrigued by her potential as Storm.
I’m deeply interested in exploring the character of Storm. It might seem trivial at first glance, but I believe her depth and internal struggles have yet to be fully revealed. Therefore, I think there’s potential for us to delve deeper into her complexities.
The X-Men Are All Set to Take Over the MCU
I’m thrilled to see Cynthia Erivo stepping forward with her proposal for Storm at a pivotal moment, as she leverages her growing Hollywood fame, earned notably from her role in Wicked, to make an impact on the Marvel Cinematic Universe. With the X-Men now integrating into the MCU, we’ve already witnessed live-action appearances by characters like Wolverine, Beast, and others. Furthermore, animated versions of these mutants are being introduced through shows like X-Men ‘97 and What If…?, with Storm herself making her entrance into the interconnected franchise thanks to the latter series.
Ororo Munroe, a character introduced by Len Wein (writer) and Dave Cockrum (artist), debuted in “Giant-Size X-Men” #1 way back in 1975. One of the most potent mutants globally and an elder stateswoman of The X-Men, Storm possesses the ability to manipulate weather conditions, a power she uses for flying and hurling lightning bolts. Previously portrayed by Halle Berry in Fox’s “X-Men” series, envisioning Cynthia Erivo with long, white hair, piercing white eyes, summoning storms, and guiding younger mutants isn’t too far-fetched. However, the question remains: Is she the Storm fans are eager to see in this role?
Secret Wars” will serve as a gateway for these new characters to join.
In our upcoming movies, you’ll find that the X-Men saga carries on with some familiar faces. Following this, the tale of Secret Wars paves the way for a new era of mutants and the X-Men. It’s truly a dream come true as we bring back the X-Men once more.
