Looking ahead, there are some exciting new Star Trek series coming up, but with only the revival of Starfleet Academy and fresh seasons of Strange New Worlds, there seems to be plenty of scope for the franchise to develop more concepts. While rumors have been circulating about a live-action Janeway project, it could be beneficial to explore other characters as well. In case they decide to proceed, Brent Spiner has indicated his readiness to reprise his role as Data.
As a dedicated Star Trek enthusiast, I found myself reminiscing about the captivating performances of Brent Spiner as Lieutenant Commander Data during Season 3 of Star Trek: Picard. The intriguing narrative seemed to hint at a potential conclusion for the iconic cast of The Next Generation. However, the possibility of unforeseen events always lingers in the realm of television production.
Should the powers that be at Star Trek decide to bring Data back into action in another series, I am eager and ready to reprise my role as this beloved android character, as I shared with ScreenRant during a recent interview. The allure of exploring new frontiers with Data by my side is simply irresistible.
I’m open to collaborating whenever the writing quality is strong and the concepts are intriguing. To be honest, I’ve got an idea brewing in my mind, though I can’t say if it’s any good or not. It’s simply a title at this point, titled “Star Trek: Data.” (Laughs) I’m curious about your thoughts on it! Absolutely, I’m ready to take on more projects.
Initially, Brent Spiner expressed firm reluctance about reprising his role as Data following the character’s demise in Star Trek: Picard Season 1. However, it appears that he has since had a change of mind. It’s worth noting that the newer version of Data presented in the story provides an explanation for why the character might look different now.

Despite not making TopMob’s list for top Star Trek characters ever, Data continues to be a beloved figure among fans of “The Next Generation.” It’s clear that many would delight in witnessing more escapades for this character. However, one cannot help but ponder when the series will consider reprising some of these classic roles, as has been done with the original cast members.
It’s certainly challenging to imagine replacing veterans like William Shatner with Paul Wesley or considering a new actor for Brent Spiner, who is still active on TV. Michael Dorn, known for playing Worf in Star Trek: The Next Generation, expressed his hope that he would be deceased before the series considers recasting his role. It’s not hard to imagine that other TNG cast members like Spiner share similar feelings.
Simultaneously, Brent Spiner enjoys an edge due to his ability to appear in Star Trek as various relatives of Dr. Noonien Soong, Data’s creator. Over the years and different eras of Trek, he has reprised this role several times, making it seem like a recurring joke that all of these characters share his likeness.

Regardless of what’s happening now, it’s irrelevant if there’s no solution for Data to reappear in Star Trek. Earlier, I mentioned that a continuation of Picard seems unlikely, despite the series finale hinting at further journeys with Jeri Ryan’s Seven of Nine joining forces with other former Enterprise crew members. If this sequel doesn’t get approved, it’s probably pointless to discuss whether Brent Spiner will come back as Data.
Watch episodes featuring Data from “Star Trek: The Next Generation” on Paramount+, and don’t forget to catch Brent Spiner in “Picard”. Regardless of future appearances, there’s a wealth of memorable moments to revisit from the series’ past.
