As a movie buff, I can’t help but feel an electrifying surge of excitement at the possibility of DeWanda Wise soaring into the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the iconic X-Men character, Storm. While she recently demonstrated her aviation skills as Kayla Watts in 2022’s Jurassic World Dominion, whispers from the rumor mill suggest that the MCU might be eyeing Wise for the role of fan-adored Mutant Ororo Munroe.

It’s important to note that until Marvel Studios verifies the casting news shared on X (previously Twitter) by user MyTimeToShineHello, the speculation about Wise potentially becoming Storm is just a rumor for now. In simpler terms, take this report with a grain of salt until there’s official confirmation from Marvel Studios.

DeWanda Wise is now being considered for the role of Storm in the X-Men reboot.

Halle Berry initially portrayed Storm in the first X-Men films, released in 2000, which marked a significant beginning for the franchise. Later on, she reprised her role in X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014), directed by Bryan Singer. Subsequently, Alexandra Shipp stepped into the character for X-Men: Apocalypse, joining the younger cast members. If Wise is selected to carry forward Ororo Munroe’s cinematic journey, she would be older than both Berry (at the age of 33) and Shipp (aged 24) were when they began playing the character.

DeWanda Wise Would Make an Excellent Addition to the MCU

40-year-old actress DeWanda Wise could be a fantastic choice for the upcoming MCU X-Men team, given her impressive acting skills demonstrated in shows like “Imaginary,” “Poolman,” and “Three Women.” Wise’s versatility as an actress would bring depth and weight to the character of Ororo Munroe (Storm), a role that requires gravitas, considering Storm made her debut 50 years ago in the comic book “Giant-Size X-Men” #1 (1975).

After the massive financial triumphs of “Avengers: Endgame” and “Spider-Man: Far From Home” (released in 2019), the Marvel Cinematic Universe experienced a period of creative stagnation, raising concerns about quality. But the box office hit “Deadpool & Wolverine” from last summer seems to have breathed new life into the franchise, and there’s a palpable excitement for the three films set to premiere in 2025.

Nonetheless, prior to Mister Fantastic (Pedro Pascal) and his group confronting Galactus, there’s an upcoming event: Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) challenging President “Thunderbolt” Ross (Harrison Ford) on Valentine’s Day.

The movie “Captain America: Brave New World” hits theaters on Valentine’s Day, February 14th, and introduces the long-awaited Marvel character, Red Hulk, played by Ross. Additionally, during Super Bowl LIX, we were given a sneak peek at the formation of the Thunderbolts team in theaters starting May 2nd. So, there’s no shortage of superhero action before the X-Men get their standalone movie. It remains to be seen if DeWanda Wise will portray Storm, and fans should remember that Academy Award winner Denzel Washington might join the Marvel Cinematic Universe as a villain for the X-Men.
