Will Ferrell Says Some ‘Elf’ Fans “Were Not Too Happy” With Buddy the Elf Drinking and Smoking

It seems like not everyone cares that Buddy the Elf may be going through a midlife crisis.

In December, Will Ferrell became widely popular online when he showed up at the Los Angeles Kings vs. Philadelphia Flyers game dressed as his iconic character from the 2003 holiday movie, but with a twist. Instead of portraying Buddy in his usual cheerful manner, he chose to give the impression that time had taken its toll on him, complete with a beer in hand, a fake cigarette hanging from his mouth, and a grumpy facial expression.

Despite finding it amusing, Ferrell admitted to People magazine that “not everyone was entirely pleased.”

Ferrell, who found it funny, confessed to People magazine that it didn’t sit well with some individuals.

In the movie titled “Elf”, directed by Jon Favreau, we follow the story of Buddy, a large elf who was brought up as such, embarking on a journey from the North Pole to New York City. His mission? To locate his biological father, Walter Hobbs (the late James Caan), who is unaware of his existence and desperately needs some holiday cheer.

Recently, Ferrell revealed on the “New Heights” podcast hosted by Travis Kelce and Jason Kelce, the motivation behind his fresh Buddy the Elf appearance.

Occasionally, random thoughts pop into my head. As season ticket holders for the L.A. Kings, we’ve got prime seats right by the glass – it’s fantastic! One such thought was, ‘During the holidays, why not dress up as Buddy from Elf, grow a beard, and carry a candy cigarette? I’ll sit there during a game and see how folks react.’ And that’s exactly what I planned to do.
