In Nicholas Stoller’s romantic comedy, a loving father and a busy Hollywood executive find themselves at odds when their daughters’ and sisters’ weddings are both booked on the same day at the same venue. The film offers a humorous series of mix-ups, leading to an unexpected scene where Will Ferrell’s character, Jim, finds himself in bed with an alligator. This unforeseen event turns out to be quite a handful for him. Reese Witherspoon has shared her initial doubts about how the production team would approach this eccentric sequence, but she later disclosed that a confident individual presented his own version of the alligator scene, which ended up being included in the film.

In this movie scene, there’s a moment involving an alligator, which is evident in trailers and promotional materials. Initially, we weren’t sure whether they would create a fake alligator or rely on CGI, but then a man from Georgia, where we filmed, presented us with a video. He said, in a southern accent, “I have an alligator named Lucille who is quite tame. I think Mr. Ferrell could wrestle her. You can pull her by the tail, shake her like a baby, or even hug her like your mom, and she won’t mind. It’s up to you whether you want to use her, or not.” They had another movie to film if we didn’t take Lucille.

Surely, one must acknowledge that the man took a bold step by attempting to woo Lucille and Lucille’s team, right? Incredibly, their production team was offered the chance to film with a real alligator. While I think it’s wise they declined, given the inherent risks — it could have been extremely hazardous. During her interview on The Tonight Show (which is now available on YouTube), Reese Witherspoon shared Will Ferrell’s response. Essentially, most of us might relate to his emotions: many can sympathize with his feelings.

Nevertheless, we chose not to take the live alligator with us, as it remains an alligator, and Will expressed his reluctance, saying, “I’m not comfortable holding a real alligator.
