Will Forte Says His “Biggest Regret” Is Not Doing ‘The Amazing Race’ With Val Kilmer

In an open discussion, Will Forte shares that not participating in a reality TV show alongside the late Val Kilmer remains his deepest regret.

In a personal essay for Vulture, the former Saturday Night Live actor reminisced about his bond with Kilmer, who tragically passed away from pneumonia at 65 years old on Tuesday, as announced by his daughter. Their friendship blossomed during their collaboration on the 2010 film MacGruber, a movie adaptation of Forte’s popular Saturday Night Live sketch with the same title.

Afterward, Forte and Kilmer maintained communication, and at one instance, Forte remembered the actor of The Doors requesting to reside with him while he was experiencing a disagreement with his landlord in Malibu. For approximately two and a half months, they cohabited, during which Forte disclosed that he was the one who introduced Kilmer to reality TV.

Previously, I enjoyed watching ‘The Amazing Race.’ One day, while I was engrossed in an episode, my friend returned home and dismissed it as ‘garbage.’ He suggested that such programs would negatively impact my mind. I countered by saying the show was decent and urged him to give it a chance before criticizing it. Reluctantly, he agreed and began watching. To my surprise, he soon became captivated by the series.” – The Last Man on Earth actor reminisced.

That’s when an idea popped in Kilmer’s head.

At some point, he exclaimed, “Will, you and I need to participate in ‘The Amazing Race’. We must. Let’s do ‘The Amazing Race’. My response was, ‘I’m all in!'” Forte continued, expressing that they both became really enthusiastic about the idea.

Yet, upon sharing their intentions of participating in The Amazing Race with their agents and managers, they didn’t receive the positive response they had anticipated.

Forte shared, “They exclaimed, ‘It’s impossible that you two are attempting that!’ To this day, that might be my biggest career regret – not having participated in The Amazing Race with Val. I believe we wouldn’t have lasted long, but it would have been an unforgettable adventure.

The show titled “The Amazing Race” is an extended reality competition series where several teams participate in a global race, with the winning team receiving a grand prize of one million dollars upon reaching the final destination first.
