Initially, when it became known in 2022 that Will Smith and Michael B. Jordan would appear together in “I Am Legend 2,” curiosity about Jordan’s character role arose within me. There are numerous possibilities as to how his character might fit into the story. Could he represent a younger version of Smith’s character, or perhaps the leader of Hemocytes? However, after Will Smith disclosed additional details regarding Jordan’s part in the “I Am Legend” sequel, my excitement for the upcoming film has grown significantly!

Michael B. Jordan has consistently shone in every film role he’s taken on, from “Fruitvale Station” to his upcoming appearance in “Sinners,” set for release in 2025. Given Jordan’s powerful performance in the Creed films, I have no doubt he’ll deliver the perfect balance of intensity and emotional depth, much like Will Smith did in the original.

At the finale of the movie “I Am Legend“, we found that a group of survivors had emerged among those afflicted by the Krippin Virus. In contrast to Dr. Neville, who was New York’s last man, it appears that Jordan’s character will have company, living amidst an apocalyptic landscape instead.

Initially, when Will Smith declared he’d be part of an “I Am Legend” follow-up, I must admit, it left me a bit perplexed. Even DJ Jazzy Jeff, his friend, seemed taken aback by this decision regarding the casting. You see, the dramatic, post-apocalyptic conclusion of the movie showed Dr. Robert Neville taking his own life and destroying the Darkseekers along with him to save Anna and her son who had the cure for the virus. As a result, director Francis Lawrence felt that a sequel wasn’t necessary because Dr. Neville didn’t live, while a prequel might be too similar to the disaster movie “Contagion.” However, it seems that the sequel will disregard the original ending and opt for an alternative one where Dr. Neville survives instead.

Despite being in the early stages of production, I’m still thrilled to witness the on-screen partnership between Will Smith and Michael B. Jordan. The star of Black Panther expressed his admiration for his fellow actor, stating he’s “eager” to work with someone he’s “admired for a considerable length of time.” As they are both producing the upcoming sequel, it seems that Smith reciprocates this sentiment, expressing confidence in their strong collaboration. Smith also clarified Jordan’s role in their forthcoming film; Jordan will be appearing in the movie based on his role in The Wire.

As a film enthusiast, I’m currently immersed in a captivating tale where Michael B.’s character leads a thriving community nestled in the heart of Connecticut.

Interestingly, the alternate ending of the sequel suggests that Dr. Neville uncovered a twist: the Darkseekers weren’t as wicked as portrayed, and their aggression stemmed from Dr. Neville’s kidnapping of the female Darkseeker test subject. In this surprising turn of events, Dr. Neville chose to reunite the female Darkseeker with her partner, leading to a peaceful departure for all involved.

As a dedicated cinephile, I find myself pondering an intriguing narrative twist for the sequel: Perhaps Dr. Neville, our protagonist, discovers a semblance of humanity within the Darkseekers that Jordan’s character has yet to recognize. The tension between their perspectives promises an engaging exploration of whether their relationship will devolve into conflict or evolve into cooperation.

I’m genuinely excited about the news that Michael B. Jordan’s character will be leading the settlement in “I Am Legend 2.” The idea of a new generation of survivors, under his leadership, rebuilding humanity from the ruins that Dr. Robert Neville initially aimed to restore is really intriguing.
