Will Smith might be returning to another one of his past roles.
During a live stream on Twitch with xQc, Smith addressed some inquiries from fans, including one about the potential for another Hancock movie. The 2008 film, Hancock, directed by Peter Berg, features Smith as the titular character – an alcoholic superhero seeking to improve his public image and aid Los Angeles following his heroic actions of saving a PR executive’s (Jason Bateman) life and meeting his spouse (Charlize Theron).
When asked about a sequel, Smith joked, “They be leaking all my information.”
The actor hinted, “There’s an exciting concept for a sequel to ‘Hancock.’ We haven’t discussed it yet, but I can share a tiny tidbit – Zendaya may be considered for the cast of ‘Hancock 2.'”
Smith’s remarks aren’t the sole indication of a possible sequel; back in 2012, Berg openly discussed his plans for a follow-up to the movie during an interview.
Over the past period, discussions regarding the follow-up project have been ongoing between me, Will Smith, Michael Mann, and Akiva Goldman. We’re all enthusiastic about the idea, but finding a mutual availability for meetings has proven to be challenging. Despite this, we had a series of meetings last year where we began sketching out an idea for the sequel, with the concept actually originating from Will Smith. I believe that the project will come to fruition, it’s simply a matter of coordinating our schedules at the appropriate time.
Meanwhile, Theron confirmed that should a sequel ever happen, she would star “in a heartbeat.”
For some time, we [discussed the possibility of a sequel],” Theron shared with ComicBook.com. “However, this conversation took place closer to when the movie was released, not more recently. In essence, our superhero characters will be equipped with walkers instead. And I’m ready to reprise my role.
It’s not just Hancock that Smith might revisit; he has other films in his catalog as well. Notably, the actor was part of the cast for 2024’s “Bad Boys: Ride or Die,” and it was made known in March 2022 that there will be a follow-up to “I Am Legend” featuring Michael B. Jordan.
The 2007 post-apocalyptic movie, initially co-written by Akiva Goldsman, is being penned again by him for Warner Bros. The film concluded with the demise of Smith’s character, a scientist seeking a remedy for a plague that wiped out most of mankind and transformed survivors into grotesque beings. However, it remains uncertain how this character could reappear in the sequel.
Smith commended the movie by saying, “Michael B. Jordan possesses a depth of comprehension that not everyone shares. He’s an exceptional talent, truly unique.
