Reflecting on the timeless appeal of the sitcom “Friends,” I find solace in its repeated airings and streaming availability with a Max subscription. However, it’s somewhat disconcerting to ponder that three entire decades have elapsed since those cherished Thursday nights on NBC. This might be an emotionally charged subject for Jennifer Aniston and her fellow cast members as well. A nostalgic moment for me was witnessing Courteney Cox’s Walk of Fame ceremony, while Lisa Kudrow poignantly emphasized the span of time that has transpired.
Many of Friends’ stars continue to show up in projects on the 2025 TV calendar, but there’s no questioning that the NBC sitcom and the relationships they formed back then changed the entire trajectory of their lives. When Courteney Cox — aka Monica Gellar — was honored with a star on the Walk of Fame, Jennifer Aniston and Lisa Kudrow joked about how long it had been that they’d been co-workers, friends, family and sisters, which you can see in the clip on Instagram below:

Over two decades have elapsed since a fresh episode of “Friends” graced NBC’s screens, and over three decades since the premiere, yet watching the comedic chemistry between the cast remains as entertaining as ever. It’s almost like time has stood still for Ross, Rachel, Chandler, Monica, Phoebe, and Joey. Lisa Kudrow, who played Phoebe, couldn’t help but emphasize how long it had been, as if by repeating it, she might somehow convince herself that it wasn’t true. In a heartfelt tribute to Courteney Cox (Rachel Green), the actresses made sure to highlight the enduring impact of their iconic sitcom.
- “Jennifer Aniston: We’ve known you for a very long time.
- Lisa Kudrow: It’s been that way for since we met 30, almost 30 years ago.
- Aniston: No, not 30 years, that’s a typo.”
Watching this video brought back memories of how far removed 30 years feels now. The “Friends” series, airing from 1994-2004, coincided with a significant chunk of my life – from secretly watching episodes on the phone with my friends during my teenage years to hosting college watch parties, and eventually recording “The Last One” on VHS because I had to work on that night at my first real job.
In the video you see, Lisa Kudrow only briefly touched upon the many years that had elapsed once. As Jennifer Aniston carried on speaking, their conversation unfolded like this:
- “Aniston: I mean she’s just such a really a good human, you know, an extraordinary friend.
- Kudrow: At almost 30 years ago.
- Aniston: Will you stop saying 30 years ago?”
In simpler terms, during the final scene of the speech, the actress who plays Phoebe Buffay managed to slip in one more joke. This was evident when the three main female characters shared a group hug, and they all shouted something humorous together at the end.
30 years! It’s a good thing!
Lisa Kudrow’s observation holds merit, and though Jennifer Aniston has addressed the scrutiny attached to growing older in the entertainment industry, it’s fortunate that they’ve managed to maintain such enduring friendships.
They frequently share birthday homages, delighting fans whenever multiple cast members reunite, as seen with Jennifer Aniston and Courteney Cox exchanging affectionate gestures during a video call.
Fortunately, for us enthusiasts, regardless of the elapsed years, we can continually re-experience the series, as all 10 seasons (even the most absurdly funny episodes of Friends) are accessible for streaming on Max.
