With Chicago Med Already Delivering Breakups And Death Threats In Season 12, Could We Finally Get More Of Hannah And Archer?

As a seasoned gamer of the medical drama genre, I’ve seen my fair share of twists and turns – more than any F1 car could handle on a Nürburgring Nordschleife lap! But “Chicago Med” Season 10 is proving to be a rollercoaster ride that’s giving me whiplash. The latest episode, “Bite Your Tongue,” has left me with more questions than a Rubik’s Cube after a blindfolded scramble!

Spoilers ahead for Episode 2 of Chicago Med Season 10, called “Bite Your Tongue.”

In Season 10 of Chicago Med, the Emergency Department is experiencing a shake-up, with new showrunner Allen MacDonald diving deep into fresh narratives after marathon viewing sessions. The second episode of the 2024 TV lineup upped the ante on several levels – Hannah taking a brave step to prevent Ripley from losing his medical license, Archer and Lenox locking horns, and hinting at Goodwin receiving menacing threats. Notably, this occurs just a week after we learned about Dr. Charles’ split with Liliana. As I reflect on the showrunner’s remarks regarding one constant from Season 9 – Hannah and Archer’s friendship – I can’t help but look back to see how it will unfold in the new season.

In Season 10, we haven’t seen too many instances of Hannah and Archer’s friendship yet, but recent developments make me ponder if they won’t require a supportive friend soon. When Hannah chose to inform on Sully for assaulting Pawel instead of letting Ripley take the blame, it didn’t sit well with Ripley, especially since Sully had just discovered his cancer was terminal. If not for the showrunner’s hints about the potential deepening of the Hannah/Ripley relationship, I might think this could mean the end of their romantic connection.

Regarding Archer, he made progress with Lenox regarding teamwork in the ED during “Bite Your Tongue,” but let’s face it, an old grump doesn’t change his grouchy behavior overnight. The most pressing issue at hand is Goodwin receiving death threats, which are likely due to tough decisions she had to make concerning staff reductions in the upcoming episode. Unfortunately, we can only anticipate what will unfold regarding this situation. You can rewatch the episode on Peacock if you’d like.

Reminders of Hannah/Ripley and Archer’s experiences brought back memories of my conversation with showrunner Allen MacDonald regarding the upcoming season. His initial insights into the future storyline, particularly concerning the breakup of a couple following the time leap, were something he shared during our discussion.

Moving on approximately four weeks from now, there are noticeable changes in dynamics among individuals and certain relationships have encountered obstacles. In our upcoming scene, we’ll discover that some connections have even come to an end.

The approximately one-month time leap was a decision made by all the showrunners of One Chicago for maintaining consistency across the three shows. However, Dr. Charles’ relationship with Liliana was the one that concluded. During my conversation with the new boss of Med in September, I inquired about the status of Hannah and Archer, a favorite pairing of mine, and he confirmed it.

We will definitely be seeing more of that dynamic between them.

Given their rocky beginning, it’s surprising how closely they’ve grown and how seamlessly they work together now. Just a short time ago, fans were debating the possibility of a love triangle between them in Chicago Med. When I mentioned to the showrunner that Hannah and Archer share an extraordinary dynamic on the show after their initial rocky start, he agreed.

It appears you’ve touched upon an extraordinary aspect of their bond, Laura – one that sets them apart from others. Initially, there were some rocky patches, but now they’ve reached a level where trust is profound and mutual. They lean on each other in times of emotional distress or when they need to discuss issues. It’s truly heartwarming and difficult to categorize. Despite his seniority, there’s an equality between them – a sense that they stand eye-to-eye. Their relationship is balanced, as if on level ground.

Given that it seems plausible for Hannah to find herself in emotional situations or needing to discuss her decision concerning Sully and Ripley, might the upcoming episode focus on their reunion? While we can only guess at this stage, the teaser hinting at death threats against Goodwin does suggest that Hannah and Ripley’s encounter is imminent. Let’s see if our speculation proves correct!

Find out what happens to the characters in the upcoming episodes of Chicago Med, and whether Hannah and Archer will appear together. You can catch up on all the previous episodes by streaming the series on Peacock. Additionally, Chicago Fire and Chicago P.D. are also available on Peacock and air at 9 p.m. ET and 10 p.m. ET respectively every Wednesday night on NBC.
