With FBI Moving On From Tiff's Departure, How Prepared Is Scola For A New Partner? Here's What John Boyd Told Us

As a gamer who has spent countless hours immersed in the world of FBI: Legacy (my personal gaming version of the hit TV show), I must say that the Season 7 premiere was as gripping and intense as ever, but with a poignant twist that left me feeling a bit melancholic. The departure of Agent Tiffany “Tiff” Santiago, portrayed by Katherine Renee Kane, marked a significant turning point in the series, and John Boyd‘s performance as Agent Isiah Scola was nothing short of exceptional.

The Fall 2024 TV schedule brought another thrilling episode from the FBI in its Season 7 premiere, as expected by fans. However, this episode, now streaming with a Paramount+ subscription, was more emotionally charged than typical, serving as Tiff’s farewell. After some unstable moments in the Season 6 finale, the character chose to depart from the Bureau, signifying Katherine Renee Kane’s departure and the start of a new phase for John Boyd’s character, Scola. With his previous partner gone, he will need a new companion, and the actor hinted that he is far from ready for this change.

In simple terms, the departure of character Katherine Renee Kane was revealed during the summer, yet it wasn’t until Season 7 premiered that viewers witnessed how the TV show FBI chose to part Tiff and Scola. The separation unfolded in a dramatic manner, with Scola getting stabbed in a graphic scene which also served as Kane’s last scene alongside John Boyd. The farewell between the partners was poignant, suggesting that Scola wasn’t prepared to let go of her as his partner.

As a gamer, I recently learned that the second episode of Season 7 will mark Scola’s debut without a regular partner, following Tiff’s departure. Intrigued, I chatted with Boyd about how Scola is coping and preparing for this fresh start. When I asked him, Boyd dished:

It seems to me that he lacks readiness entirely, as I doubt his capabilities as a representative. I believe he struggles with adapting, as he appears to be searching for someone who can simply step in and continue the same role without a hiccup. To me, it looks like he’s unable to restart or restructure, and this shortcoming costs him valuable chances. He seems to overlook opportunities.

In Season 3, Tiff and Scola didn’t have as much history as Maggie and OA as partners, but they were often teamed up after Katherine Renee Kane joined FBI. So, it’s no surprise that Scola won’t recover quickly following her loss on the job. After all, being unprepared can be fatal in the FBI, and it seems Scola will have to face some consequences. As John Boyd mentioned during the Season 7 premiere, “It appears there will be a cost for Scola.

As a gamer, this episode was a heart-wrenching rollercoaster ride. The final moments, when showrunner Mike Weiss is talking, are filled with a silent farewell that hits hard. Scola gets stabbed and the last scene we witness is Tiff looking at him in a hospital bed. It’s a tough goodbye indeed, one that leaves a lasting impression. Despite the sadness, I believe it’s an exceptional episode worth replaying.

In an unexpected turn of events, it wasn’t typical for these characters to exchange heartfelt words or even a farewell hug. Instead, their goodbye was bittersweet, taking place in the hospital where he lay wounded from a stab, and she stood by his side, her gaze filled with emotion. It’s worth mentioning that there were tears when Tiff left in the first episode of Season 7, but they were primarily Missy Peregrym’s as Maggie.

It seems that Scola’s life is about to get even more complicated, as he juggles his new role in FBI: Most Wanted while also dealing with the aftermath of Tiff’s departure. The next episode hints at him introducing a new partner into his team, and it appears this storyline won’t be resolved quickly, continuing beyond Episode 2.
