On the inaugural day of The 80s Cruise, which showcased popular music artists like Squeeze, Adam Ant, Tiffany, and Men at Work, a woman accidentally fell off the Royal Caribbean ship, the Explorer of the Seas.
Onboard several vessels, including the Explorer of the Seas, it was reported to The Hollywood Reporter that a rescue mission, involving multiple ships, was initiated around 11 p.m. on March 3, after a woman fell overboard. The exact cause of the incident remains unknown. Subsequently, the Explorer of the Seas carried on with its scheduled voyage, while the U.S. Coast Guard assumed control of the search operation.
Last night, a passenger we spoke to anonymously shared their account of an incident that occurred around 11 PM. It seems that Squeeze was performing when an announcement came over the speaker system, informing us that someone had gone overboard. As a result, the ship decided to halt and change course in an attempt to locate the individual involved.
The traveler commented, “For several hours, our vessel came to a halt. Search boats equipped with spotlights were released to brighten the surrounding environment. A neighboring cruise ship also switched on its lights in the search. My spouse conversed with individuals on one of the decks who claimed they heard that it was a woman and she was captured on video, though this hasn’t been verified. Later, our ship resumed operation and we continued our journey. This morning, an announcement over the PA system stated that the United States Coast Guard had assumed control of the search. We arrived in Nassau, Bahamas slightly late. No trips were canceled. I haven’t received any updates since.
In a Twitter post, user Casey Markee shared from aboard the Royal Caribbean’s Explorer of the Seas, “Unfortunately, we’re dealing with a ‘woman overboard’ incident and lifeboats have been launched. We’re about 80 miles off the coast of Miami as of 11pm Pacific Standard Time. Not a pleasant situation.
In a subsequent post on Twitter, Markee shared, “It seems a woman leaped from the 8th-floor balcony following a dispute with her companion. Regrettably, this is a first for us during our 15th cruise vacation.
As a gamer, I’d rephrase that as: “On this Caribbean adventure aboard the Explorer of the Seas, I stumbled upon an unexpected moment. After enjoying a fantastic performance by Squeeze, the ship’s PA system announced a distressing situation – someone had gone overboard during our 80s cruise. The ship has halted its journey and is currently conducting a search while other nearby vessels are lending a helping hand.
