World War Hulk Rumored To Be In The Works, And I’m Surprisingly Mixed On Who’s Allegedly Being Eyed To Direct The Marvel Movie

Examining the lineup of forthcoming Marvel films offers plenty to anticipate, ranging from “Captain America: A New World” hitting screens next month to “Avengers: The Secret Wars” concluding The Multiverse Saga in 2027. Besides these confirmed productions, there are occasional whispers about MCU movies that Marvel Studios may be covertly working on. “World War Hulk” has been one such title, and it’s rumored that a director is being considered for the project – though I find myself surprisingly ambivalent about this potential selection.

George Miller Is Being Looked At For World War Hulk

Despite being a regular in the MCU since 2008’s “The Incredible Hulk,” the Green Goliath hasn’t starred in a standalone movie yet, with Mark Ruffalo playing Bruce Banner in supporting or ensemble roles. However, according to World of Reel, there are plans to film “World War Hulk” this year, and even George Miller, director of “Mad Max,” is among the directors Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has reportedly contacted for the project.

In the comics, the storyline “World War Hulk” was a continuation of the events from “Planet Hulk.” The Green Giant, also known as the Hulk, found himself stranded on an alien planet called Sakaar after being deceived by the Illuminati and exiled from Earth due to the threat he posed to human safety. While he managed to establish a decent life on this foreign world, the ship that had taken him there exploded, resulting in the death of his wife Caiera. Overwhelmed with anger and more powerful than ever before, Hulk returned to Earth accompanied by his Sakaarian allies, ready to wage war against the Illuminati.

I’d Rather George Miller Direct Thor 5

It’s important to emphasize that I don’t believe George Miller would produce a subpar film for World War Hulk. With more than four decades of filmmaking expertise under his belt, he has shown an ability to create visually stunning films such as Mad Max: Fury Road and Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga. However, according to an article on World of Reel, Miller has mentioned his interest in directing Thor 5, and it was Chris Hemsworth, who played Dementus in Furiosa, who supposedly facilitated a meeting with Kevin Feige.

If given the option between Frank Miller directing either “World War Hulk” or “Thor 5”, I’d choose the latter without a doubt. I’m more interested in seeing him work alongside Chris Hemsworth again, and I believe Miller would excel at continuing the story of Thor post-“Love and Thunder”. Given that Taika Waititi won’t be returning for “Thor 5”, Miller could return this segment of the MCU to its Norse mythology roots while maintaining the humor that Hemsworth’s character has come to be known for since Waititi directed “Ragnarok”. This would result in a film tone similar to Kenneth Branagh’s “Thor”, but still fresh and unique.

Regarding the question of whether World War Hulk is in development or not, my guess is yes, and we might expect a Hulk-focused project within the next couple of years. After She-Hulk: Attorney at Law ended with Bruce Banner reuniting with his son Skaar, there’s been no news about where he went since then. It seems challenging to connect this peaceful reunion with Bruce and his family to World War Hulk, but I’m eager to see how the storyline progresses and connect those dots.

Should Marvel Studios ever unveil the news about “World War Hulk”, we’ll be sure to share it here on TopMob. Until that day, you can enjoy streaming all of Hulk’s MCU adventures with a Disney+ subscription. And don’t forget that “Captain America: Brave New World” will introduce characters connected to him such as Betty Ross, Samuel Sterns/The Leader, and Thunderbolt Ross who transforms into Red Hulk.
