Worldcoin now allows for the permanent removal of iris codes, thereby revoking verified World IDs upon request, in reaction to increasing examination.
Approximately five million individuals have been signed up for this innovative program that issues unique digital identities by scanning irises as proof of identity.
To ease privacy worries, Worldcoin (WLD) grants users the option to permanently remove their “iris codes.” These are unique numerical representations of an individual’s iris texture.
In a recent blog update, the project announced that World ID holders now have the ability to unverify their World ID, giving them greater control over their information.
Worldcoin’s choice is consistent with their continuous work to address privacy issues and advance their concept of a digital identity system, which can validate individual existence in the age of artificial intelligence.
Now everyone has even more choice & control over their data 🫡

Worldcoin addresses user privacy
To address worries, Worldcoin introduced a new feature called Personal Custody. This allows new users to keep their data on their own devices and provides an extra security measure by enabling users to refuse data encryption and storage by Worldcoin. Additionally, the project has carried out physical age verification for users above 18 and sought advice from external privacy specialists to establish these new safeguards.
The Worldcoin team explained that an individual’s World ID would expire and a six-month waiting period would begin.
During this timeframe, the system is set up to discourage deceit by disallowing users from instantly re-verifying their identity. Subsequently, the iris code will be definitively erased and no longer retrievable, symbolizing Worldcoin’s dedication to safeguarding user privacy and data security.
Amid ongoing probes and resistance from various nations, such as South Korea’s investigation and halts on biometric data collection ordered by Spain and Portugal, new measures are being implemented.
