In approximately four weeks, the highly-anticipated Royal Rumble event is fast approaching, fueling not only usual conjectures but also buzz about a notable figure potentially making an appearance. Reports suggest that Jordynne Grace, a three-time TNA Knockouts Champion who recently became a free agent, could be joining WWE. This speculation is bolstered by her surprise appearance at the 2021 Royal Rumble and recent stints in NXT. However, even if she does appear, an important question remains unanswered: where will Grace’s career path lead?
Prior to discussing that topic, let’s first discuss Grace’s current situation. Professional wrestlers don’t usually disclose their contract details publicly, but Grace appeared to have a significant farewell following her performance at TNA Genesis this past weekend. She also shared a video of herself bidding adieu to some of her colleagues on social media with the caption “Thank You”. Moreover, Fightful reported that it was her last scheduled appearance for TNA.
It appears that her departure from TNA is definite, at least temporarily, and it’s reasonable to expect she will join WWE. She made quite an impression during an unexpected appearance at the 2024 Royal Rumble, where she was introduced as the TNA Knockouts Champion. Over the past few months, she has been making frequent visits to the developmental brand NXT for on-screen appearances and matches.
In this partnership between WWE and TNA, those appearances have been a joint effort. However, it’s evident that when it comes to choosing talent for these appearances, WWE is selective and only approves of those they see potential in. Grace, for instance, has been booked well within the WWE context, indicating that they indeed recognize her potential. While this isn’t confirmed by any sources, considering PWInsider’s report suggesting she might join WWE, it seems highly probable, although not yet official.
It seems like she’ll make an appearance in the Rumble and move straight to the main event, correct? However, it’s worth noting that WWE usually prefers talent who have recently joined to first appear on NXT before they advance to the main roster. While there are exceptions, this is generally their preferred approach. This gives the talent a chance to adapt to the unique WWE culture and begin refining their in-ring work, which emphasizes storytelling and safety over some of the riskier, high-impact moves common in other companies. We can see this strategy being applied with both Giulia and Stephanie Vaquer, who were already renowned stars internationally, but are currently undergoing training in NXT before joining the main roster.
Grace has previously had a stint in NXT, where she’s wrestled matches, delivered promos, and apparently interacted with producers at the Performance Center. Although this time might not equal the typical amount of experience for performers, considering her history, WWE might promptly debut her on the main roster.
If they manage to do so, she becomes an instant contender for winning The Royal Rumble (or for being recognized as the one who defeated Jade Cargill). I’m not confident that will happen, but if it does and she delivers a promo challenging Rhea Ripley or Tiffany Stratton, it wouldn’t seem unexpected. She carries an aura of authority and respect within the industry. Her physique also gives off an impression of being a formidable physical opponent even for the largest and most intimidating women on the roster.
As a die-hard film enthusiast might say about an upcoming cinematic sensation: If Jordynne Grace joins WWE, it’s almost certain that she’ll shine brightly as a top talent. The intrigue lies in whether her debut will be instantaneous or if she’ll refine her skills in NXT for half a year or more first. Time will tell!
