As a gamer, I’d put it like this: “When I heard about Meta’s choice to implement a community notes model instead of relying on fact-checkers, I couldn’t help but exclaim, ‘That’s awesome!’
Instead of relying on internal fact-checkers, the community notes approach empowers users to mark potentially questionable statements or subjects for review, while fostering open dialogues about diverse topics such as immigration, gender identity, and more. This method mimics a strategy recently adopted by X, previously known as Twitter.
Yaccarino expressed great enthusiasm during his speech at CES in Las Vegas on Tuesday, saying, ‘I believe it’s incredibly inspiring when we consider how community notes could benefit the world.’ It’s truly rewarding to observe that Mark and Meta share this view.
Yaccarino described the community notes model as “the most efficient, swiftly fact-checking tool, free from bias,” and further noted that it “encourages commendable user conduct” on the platform.
She commented that when a post gets marked, it’s significantly passed around less. This is the influence of communal annotations, and we’re saying, ‘Hello, Mark, Zuckerberg from Meta, you’ve joined the celebration!'”
Or more casually:
“She pointed out that tagged posts get shared less often. That’s the impact of community tags, so welcome aboard, Mark Zuckerberg of Meta!
In response to whether Meta’s decision was indeed focused on free speech, similar to X’s assertion, Yaccarino replied affirmatively.
“I think that people all around the world have spoken,” she said.
More to come.
