In the second season of “School Spirits”, Xavier Baxter frequently appeared spooked, as indeed he should be, for he was encountering actual ghosts – not the friendly high school spirits we’re familiar with, but those residing in the hospital. In the final episode, now available on Paramount+, these spectral beings reappeared, leading to a fresh batch of mysteries that left me curious enough to query the show’s creative team about it.
In response, Nate Trinrud, one of the creators, shared insights on how the recent developments involving Spencer MacPherson’s character and the hospital ghosts might shape the series in future episodes. With “School Spirits” getting a green light for Season 3, I’m formulating a theory about why this plot twist could hold significant importance in upcoming installments.
School Spirits’ Co-Creator Told Me There’s A Bigger Story To Be Told With Xavier, The Hospital Ghosts And Spirits Outside The High School
Well, our protagonist Xavier has a special gift that allows him to see and interact with spirits. However, it’s important to note that this ability isn’t confined solely to the hospital. While the majority of the ghostly encounters in ‘School Spirits’ take place within its walls, there are instances where he can sense and communicate with them outside the hospital as well.
Riley, it seems you’ll be handling materials ideal for an engaging third season. For us, though, the real thrill lies in delving deeper into the school’s ghost world dynamics. Now, we’ve introduced a novel concept: there might be other areas within Split River that function similarly, with their own rules and operations. This presents an exciting opportunity to explore further.
Following the initial broadcasts of Season 2 of School Spirits on the 2025 TV schedule, I found myself pondering many things. The depiction of Xavier encountering spirits in the hospital suggested that this narrative extends beyond the confines of the high school, and I was eager to witness him engaging with the ghosts he could perceive.
It seems quite possible that such an event might unfold in Season 3. Moreover, the eerie world we’ve seen so far is likely to grow at a rapid pace, as Trinrud clarified to me.
It seems quite evident to me where this story is heading. I wouldn’t want to spoil the fun by revealing too much, but if you pay close attention, you might find that many questions about the nature of these realms and the abilities of their inhabitants are subtly addressed within this season.
He didn’t provide any detailed information regarding the enlargement of the spirit realm. Yet, his statement in response to the query about Xavier perceiving spirits sparked my imagination, leading me to ponder potential functions for Xavier within this context and the guidelines regulating who can observe which spirits.
I Think Season 3 Will Introduce Us To A Whole New World Of Ghosts, But Only Characters Who Have Almost Died In That Location Can See Them
In the majority of this series, it was just Simon who could perceive ghosts, specifically Maddie who wasn’t entirely deceased. Therefore, in essence, during the show’s run, no one else among the living could observe all the spirits.
Initially at the onset of Season 2, Xavier had a close brush with death which enabled him to perceive ghostly entities within the hospital, among them Maddie’s deceased father. Yet, he was unable to detect spirits in their high school setting. In the climactic finale of the season, under intense pressure, he verified that his ability to see these spectral beings persisted, as he identified Maddie’s father, but she remained oblivious to him.
My idea is that it’s only individuals who’ve been through a near-death experience and returned to life at a specific location that can perceive spirits there. As such, since Xavier was resuscitated in the hospital, he can detect all the ghostly presences within its walls.
It seems likely that Season 3 will introduce us to a completely different realm of spirits due to the current circumstances, offering insights into the spirit world beyond the high school.

It appears that Xavier is taking care of the hospital, but I’m curious if we might encounter any other spirits at different locations or if there’s a chance for someone to view all the high school ghosts as well.
Could we say instead: Will Maddie be capable of speaking with Charley, Rhonda, and Wally after her near-death experience? Does Xavier perceive beings beyond just those confined to the hospital? Might there be additional spirits lurking in Split River?
I’m optimistic that all those questions regarding the finale of Schools Spirits‘ Season 2, as well as my other queries, will finally be resolved in the year 2026. Until then, prepare yourself for Season 3 of this fantastic Paramount+ series by watching Seasons 1 and 2 to see if you can decipher the new ghost rules that may have been introduced now that Xavier can perceive them in a different setting.
